You can safely compost any plant material, if and only if, you do it correctly and let it aerobically compost long enough. Don't worry about any poisonous or potential toxins in any "greens" or "browns" materials. I compost all kinds of toxin plants, weedy and seedy plants, and high protein meats, and other forms of plant and animal wastes when I can get it! Aerobic composting is nature's way to neutralize and sterile biodegradable materials. I would suggest composting this stuff in small portions per week, in a large compost pile consisting of conservative greens and browns (i.e. grass clippings, leaves, straw, food scraps, etc.). Keep the pile moisturized and aerated often. NOTE: Keep in mind that composting is about moderation and balance! Also you can experiment by adding sugary substances like dry molasses, old soft drinks, etc., in the pile in order to increase microbial growth in the pile. This will both speed up decomposition and increase internal heating. The extra heat from the microbial growth will also help break down mild toxins and pathogens. Normally you can safely compost conservative greens and browns in 1-2 months in an active hot compost pile, or 6-12 months in a passive cold or static compost pile. If you have concerns about the timing of your compost pile decomposition, go an extra 1-3 months if necessary. It won't hurt anything. Actually it is a smart thing to do! Hope this helps. You know Barbra, that was so long ago I can't remember. With me there is no telling what I sent or who I sent stuff to. I'm glad they came up for you and I hope they all do well for you. Sorry I can't help you with what the others are. Maybe if you post a picture it will jog my memory, but I wouldn't count on it. I hope everyone else is having success growing their seeds I sent them. Right now I have over 300 daylily seedlings started. I'm keeping busy trying to keep the fungus gnats and other little critters away from them. I just can't believe how fast those suckers grew. I soaked them one night, planted them the next morning and at 3 days old they were already 4 inches tall or better. Now if I can just keep them going in the right direction and it warms up enough to plant them outside soon I'll have it made. Happy Gardening, Marian

I too would like to know how and when to safely transplant young castor bean plants that I am starting from seeds from last year's plant. I have soaked and planted 8 seeds in one large pot. Also...can I harvest the pods before they burst so I don't have to look for them all over the place? If so when do I know its time before they burst? I would like to put them in a plastic bag so they will burst in there. Lastly....how long can I keep the seeds? I still have many seeds left from last year and would like to save them. Thanks Terri

I can send you some. Castor grows wild here. We always used it as a shade plant or wind barrier. I think I even have some that I collected down by the Indian River last year... I don't think they've set seed yet...(gives me a goooood reason to ride my bike out to the Lone Cabbage and check though!
