Guess what?? not 48 hrs later they are looking like NEW PLANTS! not wilting at all now. The leaves are looking much better and the vine itself is stronger. YEAAAA! I am not going to do anything until roots form on it, but I am thinking of just keeping it in water. I have a real nice vase for it later on if I decide to do that. But yeah- even my husband was impressed with it today. pirate, yes that is what it is- a Philodendron "Brasil" I guess some spell it with a "z", is it right either way? I wanted it bushy and not just viney, so "someone" told me to pinch it, like you would for a Potho, so I did, it didn't really hurt it any, and it is bushy, just kinda growing all over the place- lol. But thats all good. I am just going to leave it alone now and let it vine out. Lesson learned. Oh and I finally got some rocks and pie pans for my little homemade humidifiers. So far so good. (for outside anyway) I think they like it. :) only problem is now, the cat wants to drink the water out of the pans! Silly kitty anyway, least he isn't chewing on any plants~~ (knock on wood) But I wanted to thank you all for your input and info and experience with this and your patience with me. Marjie :)

man i hate these 'i read somewhere once' ... thoughts ... been there.. done that ... crippled me from taking action ... stick your hand in dry liquid fert .. and it will 'burn' any open cuts or hangnails.. just like table salt .. or vinegar properly dilute it .... and stick you hand in the bucket.. nothing.. or at worst.. you have a blue or green hand .. lol .. in my warped world.. its all about proper dilution.. if you care to experiment .. find some slugs.. salt them ... while drooling.. lol ... they will basically slime themselves to dehydration and death trying to get the salt off ... [if you really want to get rid of them.. i would recommend the saute in in garlic butter thingee .. lol] .. now take a plate.. and pour in a little [not to drown them.. but to make them crawl across] some properly diluted liquid fert.. and i would not be surprised that they crawl right out.. and head for you prized plants ... rather than relying on third hand 'things' .. try the 800 number on the package ... growing a lush thick garden .. is going to be better for your wildlife.. than cowering in fear and not maintaining a thriving environment .... that will be conducive to the wildlife you want to attract ... and this of course is all about PROPER application.. you start throwing handfuls of fert around the yard.. sure.. i would not doubt you could create salt mines that are a negative ... but that scenario really isnnt what you are talking about.. and by that time .... your plants will start dying from over-fert'g look at it this way.. under the hypothesis that all salt is bad.. one would expect.. up here in the rust belt ... that there would be no beneficial animals.. anywhere a road/driveway/sidewalk is salted ... and i just dont believe that is the fact ... if you can go organic.. all the power to ya.. i just dont buy that some properly diluted liquid fert is going to be a negative ... ken

I have ivy that is old, congested and has a thick layer of roots, (some are 3" thick) covering a steep bank near my driveway that seems to be effectively keeping erosion under control. It is visible as you drive up to my house, and it has looked very bad the last couple of years because the roots show through and the green is spotty and appears dry despite adequate water. It is very invasive but I don't want to try to replace it.... too much work! I just want to make it look better so I've cut off the surface layer and my helper and I are hacking at the roots to try to thin it out. I expect it will come back and look better this summer. Please advise if there is anything I should do. Wish I could post a photo but I don't know how. Thank you, Joan from Ashland OR

Layman's terms: Neighbor A plants a tree. That tree grows onto neighbor B's property. Neighbor B wants to trim that portion of the tree which has encroached onto their property. Neighbor A refuses their right to do that. Note that, Neighbor B doesn't need to access neighbor A's property to trim it. It is legally neighbor B's right to trim the tree that crosses the property boundary. Neighbor A is attempting to infringe on Neighbor B's rights. This was the example I gave. I shared my situation, and I compared it to OP's situation. These are two different situations, with similarities. I shared the legal advice we were given by a reputable attorney. We're all here to share our opinions. I'm unclear what the problem is with sharing my viewpoints and opinions in the matter. "if you built in such a way you cannot get a bucket truck into your own yard that would be your problem" First, we didn't build. Second, I don't need a bucket truck as that's irrelevant to a neighbor refusing someone's homeowners rights. Third, Brickeye, why are you attacking me for sharing my opinions and sharing my own similar experiences? The Op asked for suggestions from others who have lived next to a person like this. I shared my experience with the OP. If you don't like the opinions I'm sharing with the OP, and can't respect Gardenweb's user policy, get off the thread.
