Ads that fill up the entire page

There's an advert on the main page of THS that fills up the entire page when it loads. I'm about to stop coming to this site, because the ads are getting way too obnoxious.

I'm seeing no ads there except a descrete frame labeled Sponsored Links from Yahoo!

Do these things appear at different times in different parts of the country? Several people on heating and airconditioning are seeing pop-ups that others of us do not see.

Yeah, South Beach Diet ad that opens new tabs, you click close and it opens another. Most annoying advertising site I ever visit. I used Safari and it was really bad; Firefox is better, but still annoying enough to not come back.

suggestion: iVillage - find other ways to make money on this site.

Owie.. I don't blame you! I just checked here in Okie and I don't seem to have that showing up on the Oklahoma Gardening Web forum. Maybe you could try setting your pop-up blocker to not allow pop ups from Gardening Web, or maybe round up a moderator who could give some advice. On PalTalk there is a way to block their banners and ads by certain settings on your own pc. You might try it with Gardening Web. What you'd do is on Internet Explorer, go to tools, then click on Internet Options, then click on Security, and then click on the red circle with the diagonal bar across it which is "restricted sites". Click and it will open an area with a blue bar that indicates "sites"..click to open, and there will be a place where you can type in the words, advertising.kygardeningweb.com. I don't know for sure if this will work or be the right string of words for gardening forum, web, whatever, but you could try it and see. I get so frustrated they have to peddle this garbage everywhere! Good luck... Barbara

Thoughts on subway tile going up entire wall

Sherriz. I absolutely love your kitchen design, color, lighting, faucet, hardware, hood! It is so so so beautiful. I was just in the Circa showroom drooling over your island lights. I wanted to use them in my upstairs hall but this size too large, and small too small. Perfection in your kitchen though. Love every square inch! Thanks for sharing this pic. I haven't been on GW in awhile so I missed your kitchen if you recently posted. awesome! Sandn, new glitch re: when tile goes in. My builder built a scaffolding over my soapstone so the tile guy wouldn't have to stand on stone, which would mean he will have to start 4 inches above the counter since this "thing" is screwed into the wall. I know GC meant well but it is too obtrusive to work around and tile person would have to come back and do the bottom section next day, adding another day to labor etc. So he is upcharging $400 for another day. Searching for another tile person and retro fitting the scaffold to work better. thanks y'all! d

"The really do want to close this place down don't they. patti" Those pop-up adds pay I-village to advertise here. Servers and/or server space isn't exactly cheap or free. I would say they really want to keep the site up and running, without having to charge the users/members. Many times previously, others have suggested installing a pop-up blocker. Those of us not seeing all the pop-up adds can attest they do work. some info about what blockers available www.info.com/FreePop-UpBlockers This is a site one of my Foster-son used for a long time and showed me. http://www.stopzilla.com/products/stopzilla/landing.do?type=download&aid=10004&gclid=CKbc8Znh1agCFcns7Qod3RWEhA LIL

Is anyone else getting the page blocking Lancome ad?

To those using Firefox, go to Tools (located on the Firefox toolbar) then click on Options. Open the Content Tab; the first box will say "Block pop-up windows". Make sure the box is checked. I use Firefox with Adblock Plus (and have the "block" box checked!); I never see ads. I understand the need for advertising but I only have basic DSL (all I can get in my area; until 3 months ago I was on dial-up) and only have so much time on the computer; I refuse to spend my limited online time waiting for ads to load. Hope this helps.

I never see any ads here with firefox. The NoScript extension blocks the pop ups and Remove It Permanently blocks the others.

I get a full page video ad all the time, ANNOYING AS ALL HELL. It's BS IMHO. Rediculous. I'm close to bailing out here as well. I don't blame you a bit.

Bob, thanks for those links. I just got the new Firefox and hadn't gotten the extensions yet. Haven't been here in awhile, and the popup I got after posting in the brug forum hung up my browser and I had to close and reload!

Oh for the good old days...

Using plain old ie here and never get any pop ups. In fact my blocker has been off for over a week and I still haven't seen an ad of any kind.

They backed off the ads for sure, I haven't seen a full page ad in a week or 2.
I'm REALLY tired of ads, seriously. Radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and now the web it's getting rediculous. I bale out on sites that over do ads. There are too many other sites to put up with that crap....

Paying members don't get ads. I would never use this site if I were not a paying member.

You no longer need to pay, nor is there an option to pay for this site.

Now the ads with AUDIO have started. It's getting worse now here. It's really sad.

"Paying members don't get ads. I would never use this site if I were not a paying member."

Scott, where've you been?? When was the last time you paid? Because there are no more paid memberships and there hasn't been since January '06....or there about.

If I use CCleaner or otherwise clear history or cache, I have to log in again. Before I log in there are all sorts of annoying things, but they disappear as soon as I log in. Never any ads. Sandy

Well we had Firefox on our PC but we had to get rid of it as it interfered with our online banking making things a real pain! So now I have to put up with ads and surveys when on the PC. A lot of the time I use my phone to browse the net using Opera Mini 3,no ads at all! Opera on the PC?

Opera might do the job for you. You can use firefox and get the IE View Lite extension. After getting the extension you go to your bank's page in firefox and right click on the page then on the drop down menu click on 'view this page in IE'. From then on when you go to your banks page in firefox it will open in internet explorer. You can do your banking then close that page and continue surfing in firefox.

I don't know how it is done, perhaps one could ask on computer help, but my spouse set up two 'users' on one machine. One is FireFox most things and the other is IE for business such as banking. To get from one to the other is just a couple of clicks.

I use IE and have McAfee security with pop-up blocker. BUT -- the ads are how this site can survive with no fees paid. The advertisers pay fees to the folks who own this site and so we can use it for FREEcolor> 24/7/365 !! Get a pop-up blocker.
