Something Special!
Comments (12)Janis: I'm not originally from the South, and Oklahoma is not technically the South, but I find I use that expression almost daily too :) I might be remembering Michele's description. When they described it in the book, it just reminded me of something that was said on here and in my mind it was attached to you. Here's an excerpt: Grace Bagshaw Vance will end up in jail, in the gutter, or drunk on martinis in some fancy nuthatch for ex-beauty queens," people whispered about me. "Bless Her Heart." It was true. By the day Stone Senterra came to my Georgia hometown to make a movie about my husband, Harp Vance, I was ready to kill him and accept the consequences. I'd become a deadly, determined, Bless Her Heart kind of southern belle. A cracked belle, you could say. Grieving can take over a person's life like a sinister charm, inspiring good causes and noble dedication at the expense of true healing. It's possible to both pity and fear a mourner who's gone just a little bit funny and more than a little bit dangerous. I qualified on both counts. In the South, the dreaded BHH is attached to your name with admiring sympathy but also a dollop of fear. You are no longer a dependably entertaining person and may even stoop to becoming an embarrassment. Lisa...See MoreWant to share something special with you
Comments (13)Oh Luvs! How beautiful! Blue being my fav color you know which one made my heart flutter!! Your friend must recognize your love for sentamental objects to trust you with her Mom's beautiful plates. She obviously knows that you will treasure these as much as her Mom did. My parents were poor and raised 7 children and there were NO funds for beautiful china. My DH's aunt had no children and has shared many, many beautiful pieces of furniture and china, serving pieces, etc. They may not be really expensive, but I treasure them because I know she purchased them with money hard earned and loves me enough to give them to me. We are VERY BLESSED. Betty...See MoreI think I did it again!
Comments (13)tre, that's great you've found a way to organize your mementos. You have me thinking about a few hanging files I have with stuff like that. I'll have to weed through them first. I'll add mememtos to the master list as a culling topic. I don't know if you have photographs you've accumulated, but the method you're using for your scrapbook project is similar to how I did almost all my old family photos. I got the albums with acid-free paper and clear pocket sleeves and used the clear stick-down corners to attach the photos, but my goal was to just get them down in a somewhat orderly and pleasing manner without taking a whole lot of time. I had four different family subsets that I separated the photos into before I started and they each got their own album. I still have a little bit left to go, but not much. My husband did his family photos, too. Keeping the process simple made it easier to stay motivated, and it wasn't as hard to put down and pick up. Comments (37)"Black Friday" makes me giggle. My best friend was a department store manager back when that was a snarky thing said by the clerks. The convergence of every work holiday has to have a sale to get them in the doors, with the traditional start of Christmas shopping season, made working on Thanksgiving Friday a nightmare of big crowds, mislabeled one day prices, demanding customers on a mission to score in a hurry to get to the next store, plus pushing and shoving and general lack of nice. Now we have stores promoting Black Friday, and even more, removing all meaning with "Spring Black Friday" and "All Month Long Black Friday" and "Black Friday Any Day Deals". Those 100 only doors open at 6:00 a.m. things are just to get you out of your warm bed and everyone home for the holidays comfort, and in to buy something, anything, since you got up so early for it. I don't play. I get the kind of bonding outings that Katlan and Socks describe. That sounds really nice. Especially if it's not in close crowds and there's room to walk. Our Thanksgiving Friday tradition is to stay home, do jigsaw puzzles, talk, maybe half watch a football game. Perhaps barbecue if the weather is nice. Just generally enjoy an unspoken for day off. :)...See MoreStush2049 Pitts. PA, zone 6
