Cutting -- What to do in late September

I am not too good at propogating. I took a cutting in mid-July and it finally managed to start growing well the past two weeks. I have it in a pot that is about 1.5 gallon with about 1/3 filled with dirt. The cutting sprouted several leaves the past two weeks and is growing well. It is only about 5" tall. If it were mid-August I would go out and plant it in the ground. Here in Iowa we would typically have a hard frost sometime within the next week to two weeks, but the temps lately have been very mild. Tonight's low will probably be low 60s, and highs tomorrow probably around 80.

I hardened it off and have kept the pot in the sun and set it in my rose bed. Of course it is shaded much of the day by the rim of the pot.

Should I plant it? Should I bury it?

Should I keep it in the pot and if so, what is suggested for winter care?
