What did you eat today?
Comments (14)Tuesday: Breakfast: Malt O'Meal with fresh strawberries Lunch: miso soup with peas, and tofu Snack: strawberries, blackberries stirred around in a 1/4 cup of nonfat plain yogurt Dinner: Mahi-mahi, brown rice, peas and mushrooms After dinner snack: wedge of smoked Gouda cheese and a cup of strawberries And one Vodka on the rocks approx. 1200 calories Wednesday: Breakfast: Malt O'Meal with fresh strawberries Snack: strawberries, blackberries stirred around in a 1/4 cup of nonfat plain yogurt Lunch: left overs! Mahi-mahi, brown rice, peas and mushrooms Dinner: TBD. Maybe a veggie burger. I've taken to cooking it, cutting it into pieces, then cutting tomatoes into chunks, onions into chunks, cheese, lettuce etc into bite size pieces, then putting mustard and hot sauce on the side for dipping. I only miss the bread a little! And I feel like I get a lot of variety with my smorgasbord of food. Approx. 1200 calories (can you tell strawberries are in season here!?) I read something about making the calorie-rich food the "jewel" of the crown, rather than the crown itself. I used to eat a big bowl of yogurt and fruit on the side. Now I mix a little yogurt into a big bowl of fruit. The difference in calories is amazing!! 150 compared to 240. And I actually think it tastes better with just a little yogurt, like a dessert rather than a yogurt dish....See MoreWhat are you doing today to prepare for Thanksgiving?
Comments (89)kframe - Best to your mom. Hope your day ends up to where you can be thankful it's "nothing worse." My Thanksgiving responsibilities were very limited. Bring beer. So I went out early this morning and bought a couple cases and some ice. Done. But I did decide to make something, too. Linda C's Cranberry Jezebel sounded too good to pass up. Made a batch yesterday using "hot" horseradish, and it does have a decent kick. I love it. Against Linda's advice I poured it over some cream cheese to serve as a snack rather than alone as a side. Right now I've got a hot shower to look forward to and Long Island / Staten Island (or Manhattan) traffic to not look forward to on my way to two Thanksgivings in NJ. Have a good one everyone!...See MoreWhat did You Have from the Garden, Today?
Comments (55)Chili. Yeah, it froze this morning. Lovely blue skies now. Up early so it's lunchtime. Chili. I know that the Rattlesnake beans are good. What I will be trying next are the Burgundy Bolitas with the same seasonings. I've tried them once just in beef broth. Only so many seeds - only so much room in the 2016 garden - do I want Burgundy Bolitas next year, or not? Time for me to figure that out! This is so much fun. Yes, I know, dry beans are cheap. Got any of the aforementioned in your neighborhood supermarket? I . don't . think . so. Is this anything special? Well, I don't know. Tell you what, this chili has carrots and celery root in it, besides the beef and veggies that went into the broth. Nalley top that for nutrition? I don't know but I'm ready to go out and dig dahlias! Catch ya later Steve...See MoreWhat are you eating from your garden?
Comments (22)Onions curing, garlic curing, potatoes, basil, oregano, marjoram, yellow squash (!), corn, pole beans, broccoli, cabbage. I don't have much of everything, but I notice the garden is slowly filling up vacant spots on a plate or two in the evenings. CORN! The kids have had small ears of corn every night this week and they're like... MOOR please ... This is just the early Sunglow. I guess it tastes really sweet for an early corn! I'll definitely make a bigger patch of early corn next year. I only planted 6 plants of these. We've had early squash most nights. I've killed a few squash bugs on these plants, but not real threat or even damage!! There are some on the c. moschata pumpkins, but I leave them. The c. moschata can handle the damage and it's working like a trap crop? Still, there are not very many!...See Moreflowerridge
