Easy for you to get to, Lux. A little harder (but possible) for FloridaRose. It is in "The Alameda" --on the way into Historic San Juan Bautista. The house it is associated with appears to be an old gas station. :-) I know from historic accounts that a woman living in that approximate location was a "great gardener," so it is perhaps not surprising that this beauty is there This is far from the only historic rose in this wonderful little town. We've been visiting there from sometime around 2004, and we are STILL finding new things. But it is interesting that the rose was discovered in 1906 (or thereabouts) in Niles, CA -- only a few miles north of this location. :-) AND I should mention that the Heritage Roses Group and the local San Juan Bautista Heritage Roses Group are planning a seminar on the SJB roses, on May 2, 2015. Patrick,I can only share my experience in MD. Hopefully it will be better for you mom. I never grew climbing form of WMC, but bush form was not so successful in my garden. First, the spring flush always got severe case of botritis and balled. Then it was a long pause before next flush, which was destroyed by JBs anyway. The third (fall)flush again got botritis. I had WMC in my garden for 4 years and, I am not kidding, I got 5-6 opened blooms on it altogether. Everything else was balled or chewed up. These blooms were lovely. I had very similar experience with regular MC and Niles Cochet. In addition, all three needed regular spraying to keep leaves on. They were more BS prone then other 20+ different teas I grow or used to grow. It is not a location in the garden or my cultural practice. I have Mme Joseph Schwartz, Georgetown Tea and Safrano in the same places where Cochet family used to grow and all three are happy. Sorry for being pessimistic. Olga

Hi Jeri and THANKS for your answer. As far as I understand english, I imagine you suggested me not to be so hasty in identifying a rose. The fact is that when Cass published her very illustrative picture, the ´Niles Cochet´ rose looked exactly the same than the rose my grandfather grows. Of course it could be a bit daring of me confirming the identification, but I had been taking actions such as reading many times the HMF website concerning ´Niles Cochet´rose, the ´Vintage Gardens´ site where a great amount of roses are published, as well as my grandfather´s valuable tales, bases in more than 60 years growing roses. Anyway, I am new in this forum and do not take part of it very often, so it could have been a mistake from me. In that case, sorry for it! Once more THANKS for your help and keep in touch!
