I need help id ing a plant!

I know there is a place to post my question but since I live in Arvada and figure people here might know this plant, I will try here! This very low to the ground plant just appeared last yr- a ground cover type with leaves that look like strawberry plants- had little red flowers last summer and now has yellow flowers about size of a quarter- it is spreading out. I would send pic but have not figured out how to do. It loves the eastern sun and doesn't mind getting really dry. Thank you for any help!!

Hmmm, my first guess would be cinquefoil. Some cinquefoils are weeds and should be removed. Not sure if it is what you have but it is the only thing I can think of.

If it looks like it could be a cinquefoil, do your own research before deciding if it can stay of if it needs to be removed!!

Oh my goodness!! An answer so quickly- yes, I think it is the rough cinquefoil. When I noticed the flowers were yellow this yr and remembered they were red last summer, I thought of potentilla and it looks as if they are related. Wow, as for removing, that is hard for me to do except when it comes to vineweed. This stuff is not choking anything yet. Thank you so much for helping me!!

Thanks. In further reading it seems to be area specific. And it sounds like here in Portland, it's pretty invasive. So I guess I have something else to try and kill, along with all this English Ivy. I also read that it's poisonous and we have 2 dogs and small children, so better safe than sorry. But hey, at least now I know what I'm killing. :)

A better description of the plant would help more than anything I believe! How tall is the trunk? They look short and squat with big leaves to me, is that accurate? What about color? All green all over? I think I might see red on the trunk, peel down an old leaf or two and look at a fresh unwithed leaf, trunk color tells alot. I don't see any pups, not good for the future if so... I'm not good at IDing bananas yet, I'm pretty new to them really, but the devil is in the details...

Hi peggy You may have a crinum, there is lots of variables when trying to identify them, Ive got a few and they all look different sometimes, especially without flowers. The other thing you may have received is a Hymenocallis, another relative of amaryllis and crinums. Whatever you have whenever it flowers lets have a look at a pic. Happy new year andy

That is a wonderful rose that i have. What you got though, were hellebore orientalis seedlings. I put the seedlings in reused cups i'd used to try to root roses to keep them upright and hydrated. There was a sign by them so folks didn't get confused, but i guess it didn't stay close by the whole time. I was lazy and didn't mark off all of the old names (there were 2 flats worth of cups and seedlings and i ran out of time)- figuring most folks would know that wasn't what was in them. Sorry! Tammy
