Comments (9)bad idea!! i do know that tha bad bacteria is not good, and that the distribution is 20/1 20 being water and 1 being urine. you could do that in one of those hose end sprayers. it'll break it down correctly for ya, i think. and you could put the urine in the "jug" and just dump it in as needed. i soooo need to get one!! LOL i keep needing to do that. and today we were supposed to do the urine in the compost, since i'm doing the compost tumbler, ihave to use the kid's, now you do know, if you take any kind of medications it's not good to use your own urine, especially if your using it on vegies and such. when i told my son i needed his urine for the compost, man he was grossed out, he's 12, my daughter is 6, i've been getting after her about urinating in things, so she was more than happy to do this for me!! LOL **big grinn** gotta love the kids!! LOL he'll make my flower beds but give me heck about urinating in a jug!! LOL but he'll pee behind a tree!! hmmmm.....somethings wrong!!! ROFL!!! ~Medo p.s. i hope i helped in ANY way even if it was to make ya laugh a LITTLE!! LOL **grinn** :')...See MoreLiquid Gold (Urine/Pee) Fertilizing 101
Comments (72)I have to say that I find it completely ironic--and, really, quite entertaining--that some appear to be entirely "grossed out" and against the idea of using diluted urine in their garden, yet are more than happy to apply all sorts of odd chemicals they know nothing about to their food supply! There actually is an entire subculture of alternative medicine that believes in the power of DRINKING urine as a method of curing all sorts of ailments (and no, I don't subscribe to it!) and--to date--no one has died due to the practice. I personally think it's a rather extreme practice. However, I do know--from an organic chemistry-perspective--that urine can and, in fact, IS a very viable and effective fertilizer--especially for promoting growth in the early spring. It also seems to help facilitate protection against high-heat bolting, although the mechanism by which it does so seems a bit more elusive to me. Also, being a bit of a devil's advocate here, I challenge those here who feel so strongly against the use of urine to check their beauty products. Many shampoos, conditioners, anti-wrinkle treatments, etc. (especially the more upscale ones) contain urea--the main component of urine (and many organic fertilizers, BTW). It apparently also makes an excellent astrigent (although I can't say I've been brave enough to try it), and apparently its use predates Cleopatra, who I understand (allegedly) was a regular user of it to keep her skin aglow. Such is the legend, anyhow--anyone care to be a guinea pig?...See MoreUrine as Fertilizer - Many applications.
Comments (9)I finally found some useful facts about human urine as a fertilizer. "... urine is rich in valuable plant nutrients and can be considered a liquid fertilizer... Within a period of one year, an average person excretes almost 6 kg of pure plant nutrients via urine. This is almost equivalent to the amount of nutrients contained in 15 kg (33 lbs) of compound NPK+ fertilizer." The approximate amount of nutrients the average person produces in their urine... Nitrogen: 7 grams per litre (think quart); 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs) per year Phosphorus: 1 gram per litre; 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) per year Potassium: 2 grams per litre; 1.0 kg (2.2 lbs) per year Sulphur: 1 grams per litre; 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) per year Magnesium: 80 mg per litre; 40 grams (1.4 oz) per year Calcium: 200 mg per litre; 100 grams (3.5 oz) per year Makes you think, doesn't it? Not only do we waste these nutrients, but we waste purified drinking water to wash it into the septic or sewer system! The source of this info is in the link below.
