Self Portrait with Cl Shot Silk (5 pics)

Here I am reflected in the window. Cl Shot Silk with The Ambridge Rose below. the Ambridges are just getting started.

Here is Altissimo above the driveway. My DH says to buy another one for the other side of the driveway. Smart DH! Good DH! Roses below are just waking up.

Here is Brass Band just starting his spring flush, with Just Joey behind the wall, a 'Merlot Magic' TB Iris, Rozanne geranium, and a bit of Glamis Castle on the extreme left:

Here is a TB iris called Paprika Fonos, in front of a very nice highly drought tolerant plant called Limonium Perezii.

Here is the neighbor's bouganvillia in front of my 'Apricot Nectar' rose which is not in bloom yet. My neighbor cannot see his own bouganvillia, so I have to enjoy it for him. To give you an idea of the size of it, each section of the wrought iron fence below is 8' wide. The fence itself is 6' tall.

Thank you all! Sowngrow Jasper and Banff National park are known for it's wild landscape with high mountain peaks but really not that much wildlife, guess the area are so vast that these animals are spread out pretty good. Nevertheless, hope you had a good time in Canada. To see moose, I think Yellowstone park is a better bet. Catherine, Yes,..you said it, for over 25 years I have spent every free time there,..most all grown from seeds, incl. several hundred spruce trees. My main goal with this property is pretty well done now. Still allot of work for up keeping.

Your chair will be wonderful to see when you finish. DD and I stayed at Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR some time back and enjoyed seeing balloon style chairs there in a part of their extended foyer. I had not remembered exactly what theirs looked like, (just had fun sitting in them), but this photo below was one from their website...and it's a much smaller style and has more open arms, but still with the covered top. I love the fabric you're planning to use and think that will be so great looking. BTW, thanks for the info about Joann's since I've been eyeing a home dec fabric there, so this wkend will be a great time to get it! Can hardly wait to see your finished chair.

crl, i see a lot of questions here where people question their sense of style or their taste or ability to see color, etc... or seek affirmation on their choices made... even questions about how high to hang a piece of artwork make sense to me if you don't have an eye for things like that and don't want to create more work for yourself of repairing holes... but, that's different to me than questioning whether a family picture should be placed on the mantel... i am sure some people do need to discuss things more than i do even tho i am a 'hem and hawer' myself about certain things and have some serious cognitive dissonance sometimes, but i know i would never get anything done if i needed to talk everything over... there's nothing wrong with being a 'rule follower' tho, if he/she is!

Old_dirt, take it easy and don't get too impatient. Your lovely garden will wait until you are ready to get out there! We only have a half-acre here, but it keeps me busy. This was last June-all back yard upper level (we have three levels and this is the one I worked on last year-behind garage, patio area. I need to fill in blank spots, but will wait until last year's plants show themselves. In pic below, our Sam and way too many unattended-to-yet weeds. I worked on it , but hadn't started yet. Looking back toward patio. Note to self: divide Carex this year! Anyone near us is welcome to some-should have divided long ago. Moving to right around patio w/Sam again. Below, I interplanted the hosta with Chelone, heucherella, heuchera, astilbe, ferns and Gentiana, and other typical companion plants. The old bench in the background is all that is left of a square redwood picnic table set from my childhood which makes it at least 69 years old! New front side yard (driveway to right) looking back toward upper back yard. Will be filling in this year. Nothing is popping up yet other than daffodils which started blooking this past week. Warm weather expected in the coming week (actually getting up to 70 degrees F.!), so I expect to see some of the spring perennials to start showing. The hosta pips won't show themselves for at least a while-end of April?

Really NICE!!! How old is your pink climber in your garden? I'm thinking of getting a climbing rose, but guess that it may take several years to reach that height?

I planted Cl. Shot Silk in February of 2000. It began to produce canes of that size in 2004.

That's a beautiful climber, did you use any subliminal messages on DH to get that or did DH get the idea when it reached that height and all the roses bloomed this spring and the beauty of it came out:) It would be absolutely gorgeous meeting over the drive like that. The other climber, Shot Silk is really beautiful too, I've never seen that one before. That's kind of a teasing shot to put yourself reflected in the window, LOL. Your gardens are all very beautiful, that's alot of work in them and it shows. What a striking iris that is too. Too bad the neighbor doesn't know what his bouganvilla looks like:)

Awesome, amazing garden, roses, other flowers. Too pretty for words. I have seen cl. Shot Silk growing in southern California and it really does well there.
Glad to see your Altissimo is doing so well. For totally unknown reasons, mine is doing poorly this year, barely leafed out, some shoots dying. I love this rose. Yours is in such a great spot, too. Can't wait to see more of your garden.

I've always loved pictures of your house and gardens. Amazing photos Hoov. I never knew bouganvillia grew that large. I'm glad to see the actual color of Rozanne too. Thanks for such a special treat!

OMG the Bouganvillia is astounding, they have those all over New Orleans. Just recently had a run in with one of those bad boys. They have thorns that a rose would give its petals for. BIG HONKING THORNS!!! Ive still got scratches from it. I do landscaping and someone decided they wanted it out...I guess it knew I was there to kill it and it fought back..almost won too~

I love the Shot Silk climber! I lost a band of it last summer in the great thrip invasion of 2006. Bouganvilleas--Hee! Here they grow literally like weeds, at the side of roads and highways, taking over everything in their path. They eat houses, and grow thirty feet straight up slash pines. But the above poster is right about the thorns. HUUUUUUGE thorns, make roses look like a joke.
