I need help/advise please

Hello I am new to this site... I have a few plumeria plants and 1 of them is having some issues.... I hope someone can tell me what is happening and or eating my plant... Please let me know...

Hi and welcome to the board. I was hoping someone would jump in and give you the information that you are looking for but saying that I will give it a try. First it would help to know what part of CA you are in? Looking at your pictures I would think that you are having trouble with snails or slugs. With all those rock they could be hiding out and eating at night. It is hard to tell from the picture but the long brown piece looks like it could just come off. If it was my plant the part that looks black I would cut off. Then you might want to use some snail bait to kill them. I would move the rocks and see what is under them also. What does the other branch look like? If you are in an area that gets cold at night (below 40) then you might need to dig this up and put in a warmer place. I sure hope that information will help. Thank you for that info... I live in Southern California. Here is another picture of the whole plant. This started happening about 2-3 months ago. When I first noticed something was going on I put a little bit of Seven Dust on that plant and whatever is eating it must like the seven dust :-(

A couple of thoughts: 1) Last time I checked on Al's current practices, he doesn't even screen Turface to that size (some folks do, but it's not strictly necessary). What I do is use a strainer to get just the finest particles out. I initially did screen to 1/8 in, but a) you get very little of it to use and b) things dry out pretty quickly (I could see that being useful for rot-prone succulent in plastic pots, but I doubt it's that much help compared to just watering less frequently). 2) If the mix is retaining moisture as you would want/hope/expect, I wouldn't worry about what percentage of water is draining out. When I water, I don't even go back after 10-15 minutes usually, I just water once with around a half-strength fert solution. This hasn't caused any problems, so far. In cases where I do go back for a second watering, pretty much water will start coming out immediately and most of what goes in will come out. I believe the main reason for going back though is to allow for better fertilizer+moisture retention, as you've already thoroughly wetted the mix and overcome any hydrophobic resistance to moisture. And you're not just dumping fertigation water with fertilizer you spent money on. If you have no trouble wetting the mix well and aren't worried about wasting small amounts of fertilizer, I wouldn't bother. Nothing in your post sounded like a real problem, per se (correct me if I missed something), so I think you may just be finding 'problems' to worry about for no reason. As problems go, that's way better than, say, spider mites or a root-rotted Home Depot plant that you didn't repot for a year. :)

Hi all, After spending 20 minutes waiting around the local fireplace store with my two ansy toddlers in tow and getting absolutely no help or even a "i'll be right with you" (while one salesclerk flirted with some guy, another stood around, and another was on the phone), I decided I should save myself future frustration and take my business elsewhere to buy my direct vent gas fireplaces. But this being the ONLY fireplace store in our town, i don't have another option to go elsewhere, except online or do a one hour trek to the next closest store. My GC will do all the installations, I just need to order the fireplaces. Can you recommend a good online store to purchase from? I need to buy 3 fireplaces, so i don't want to make a costly mistake! please advise!

I so appreciate all the posts. I am a weak person when it comes to me due to many things from my youth. With that being said I am trying to make it right all the way around. I spent the evening with my husband on Saturday and lied to my daughter. She found out and s---hit the fan. She says in part she is sticking up for me due to many things I said to her regarding my feelings throughout my married life, again the fact that I was not happy, but also not insisting that my husband and I do anything about it. I would get mad and then just become resentful of him and not talk, and so on. There have been times through the years that we have split due to this and of course she knows that. I have been doing a lot of soul searching and know that I, at least in part, contributed to the state of our marriage. He and I are willing to put in the work to fix it, but she says that I am weak and she has lost respect for me because I am going to go back with him. She left my home Sunday evening, came for dinner on Tuesday and I am not sure where to go. She says she does not want to interfere if I want to try to make my marriage work, but she also wants nothing to do with him and he will never be able to see her son....I am so sick of the drama of my life but so scared too. Just to clear up some questions" 1. The house is in my name alone. My first husband left the home and I have been making the payments for the last 20 years. 2. My husband did not make any racial statements to her, but he did call her some nasty names and told her that she was taking advantage of me (due to the time I spent with my grandson.) Again I do not agree with him on that. I am now starting to feel the effects of what stress does to a person but it just feels like it won't end. Thank you all for listening. Do you think my plant will have a chance and still live... the branches are very strong... But something is attacking it....

I live in Lakewood, just to let you know that I am in So CA also. The base of the plant looks fine and I still think that it might be snails or slugs and you could put something out that would kill them. Or try going outside after it gets dark with a flashlight and see if you can catch something eating it. I did that one summer when a couple of mine seem to have that problem. I was so surprised to see so many slugs eating my plants. I think after you take care of the problem your plant should be fine. I would cut off the part that is black and don't water your plant anymore. With no leaves it really does not need water at all or you will get rot. I would also take the little sterm off that is all dried out. It should just snap off. Hope this will help, enjoy your afternoon, barb
