It's working for me! I just got a PM from Emagineer today, and I get emails when I author a thread (if I check the box).

But this does highlight that GW's technology is getting dated. There are such good forum packages available for free these days (open-source software). It's surprising that GW has had the same features and look since I started on it (I think that was seven years ago).

A good forum would allow anyone to subscribe to email followup for a thread, would highlight all the threads that have new messages since your last visit, would allow creation of custom signature blocks for your posts, would allow easier inclusion of images and html links, and on and on and on...

When is GW going to invest in this site? It's probably the most heavily used garden site on the 'net, but they've been unwilling to put any money into it. That's puzzling to me.

This is why I don't post/read that much on Garden Web that much anymore. I prefer tomato - ville. You can do a search on it. For some reason Garden Web doesn't allow any mention of it and I could get banned for mentioning it. Oh Well---call me a rebel. The PMs work like a charm there and there aren't any adds. It is free.

Yeah, Tyff, I agree, but all my friends are here, so I keep coming back! I prefer Garden Buddies site a kazillion times to this one. It has all the things Steve mentions above, plus a whole lot moreÂbut not the people. They set up a Rocky Mountain Gardening Forum for me, but so far it hasnÂt worked. Maybe some day! The site even has a chat room, though thereÂs rarely anybody in it, and thereÂs a lot of international members, so when the membership requested a world time zone chart, they got it. ItÂs just so easy to get stuff done, and there are so many more options than here, and everything worksÂand thereÂs no advertising, and no tracking cookies!

Emagineer sent an email to THAT Steve?? Oh, of course she would! When Emagineer posted that she'd sent one to "Steve" on my thread about garden tools . . .

You know, there are quite a few Steves around here. Don't mind at all because I'm rather attached to the name. Could be a little confusing for others.

Skybird, I was thinking about offering some suggestions on what soldiers may enjoy reading. (We've got one Iraq War veteran in my family - my only niece is married to him.)

Anyway, this all-volunteer military doesn't look much like the one that I thought I knew a long time ago. I realized that my thinking on books probably wouldn't be to their liking.

All very off topic but that is one good reason why the PM is suppose to work.

Wanna hear a funny name story! (YouÂll notice that wasnÂt a question!)

When I was marriedÂin days of yoreÂmy husbandÂs name was Carl Eugene Martin! And we had friends and the guyÂs name was Carl Eugene Martin! They both grew up in Lancaster County, PA, and both subsequently moved to Denver. One nite we were going to a play together and my husband and I got there first and picked up our tickets and waited in the lobby for our friends. When they got there and went to the desk to get their tickets, the girl said, "Oh! YouÂre the OTHER Carl E. Martin!" to which our friend replied, "No! IÂm THE Carl E. Martin! HEÂS the OTHER Carl E. Martin!"

And then thereÂs the moving story! After they both moved to Denver, they/we both moved back to Lancaster County for a while-----and then both moved back to Denver again, within a month of each other. And we both used Allied Van Lines. Talk about confusion! They had two Carl E. Martins moving from a couple miles apart in PA to a couple miles apart in Denver a couple weeks apart! It took a while and a bunch of phone calls, but we eventually did each get our own furniture!

So, the question is, on RMG are you THE Steve, or are you the OTHER Steve??? ;-)

Well, dumb me and apololgies. I don't normally PM anyone, hate to intrude, and now have totally ignored another that has been so great to interact with. Our "Mr. Stevation"

Between jumping forums, threads, posts.....I need a GPS. And yes I wish this site had the ability to edit our posts, along with deleting the ones no one responds to.

I'm not having the problems that you have mentioned, the PMs and thread responses do come through. Although I have only sent an email 3 times. But these and the thread responses are dumped into spam, so have to check spam on a regular basis. My email is a secondary one for keeping a primary clean. I do think that the more security features we have, the more site issues crop up and not always specific to GW.

Like you have mentioned, there are other sites with far better features, but the people on this forum are "kind".

And, here is how I got confused with our "Steves". I was on the tools thread after reading the baby thread and went back to look at the other Steve's link to his site. I was so intrigued with how well the site was done, his beautiful and talented wife, the settings....this person went into past memories mode. After writing him, I used the back page option and landed in the wrong thread.

I didn't want to write OT on the baby thread, but wanted to share with him. There was nothing secret, just special memories. For 7 years I lived about 2 miles from him, the pics of the mountains and canyons brought back so many memories. My husband and I were married in the town next to him, in the little church where "Foot Loose" was filmed. We lived up the road from the canal where they had the tractor race and the old flour mill the dance was held in the film. Had acreage right at the base of the same mountains as Steve.

I had to write Steve and share how much the pics meant to me. Was curious if he was in high tech (which he is not) as both my husband and I landed in Utah due to small companies located in the area. Was hoping a bit that he may know some of the people we did. Although the area has grown 10 times over and he is the age of my youngest son.

So memories flowed, as not long after our move from there my husband died and those pics of Steve's place just got to me. Our home there was priceless.

Totally OT, and now I'm rambling which is why I try not to post beyond. But reason for writing him and believe me, he is living in one of the most beautiful places around.

I concur, this site does need to be updated. When I was trying to start my profile my handle was already used but it offered me an alternate. Color me suprised when I tried that version it told me that was taken too.
Anyway, maybe they will pick up this thread and choose to do something with it. Yeah right, I know I am only dreaming!!

Definitely dreaming, Ladybug! Several months ago I decided to check out the newbie forum and found a bunch of links to porn sites! I had to email administration TWICE before they were FINALLY taken down. I don't think iV really cares at all what's on here anymore. Something like that would NEVER have happened when Skip was running the place.

Upgrade? Bwhahahahaha! Cnetter and I have asked over at the suggestions board for a gallery and exchange board like other regional forums have. phhhhtttttt!
