My first bloom.....Va. Beach, Va

I just wanted to post my first bloom to share with you all!!! It's a no name...but it's my first!!! More of my plants have inflos....I'll keep my fingers crossed that I will see more blooms before the cooler weather sets in!!!

Very nice! Love the dichotomy of the photo - desert plant in the background vs. a tropical in front!

Hey Josh...yes I had just watered them before I took the pics...I will wait a while before I water them again....maybe mist then water a little...They did have roots when I recieved...some did not..I will just mist the unrooted ones... MrLike2u...thanks for the compliments... I really am fascinated by the icicles as well...especially hanging down from the fake ones!!! LOL...Mother nature said that "she" could do a better job than the fake ones!!! The light at night behind the icicles is just beautiful!! I wish that I could capture that ....But since they were measuring over 4 feet long...my son decided to take care of them this afternoon!!! Good thing bets were not called in yet!!! LOL... Katkuskris....the white Ghost was potted in the glued mediumof pebbles...that bothered me, but i had to buy it...I loved the color..I cannot see anys signs of it being grafted...Like my Plumerias that are grafted, you can see the graft line...could it be under the pebbles...would you recommend this spring to break the pot and repot in the 5-1-1-mix? I have been trying to study about the different mixes...and am ready to start with new mixes come spring! I have located a nursery located an hour away that has turface and other special ingredients that will be helpful...so I know that my medium is not that great...but I am a "newbie here on this C & S forum, but ready to commit to repotting the right way!!! NANO PROBE is really tiny, the blooms can't be much over 2" in size - it is really cute with great color. It took a while to become established here - this is maybe its third year. MICRO DOTS must do well for a lot of people. It won the Fl Sunshine Cup this year at National Convention. It actually has scapes that are a bit taller but it is at the front of a mini bed here. Scapes might be about 22" ( w/o checking the registration data. Both have really good plant habits!

Thank you all for the very nice comments! i appreciate them all. knotz-what part of washington do u live in? Brooklyn- thanks again... yeah i was born in my mothers house here in va beach and still live in va beach. i got tired of seeing her house with the same landscaping as everyone else bushes and shrubs also huge trees, too many...anyway especially when i love palms so i changed her yard. I will start the greenhouse soon its kinda in my head haha. i bought the palms all over some down south personally, some e-bay, some online nurseries, friends. I definitely agree with you totally about the cleaning the trunks, i mainly did that washingtonia becase the trunk was sooo messed up anyway i couldnt look at it any longer. I will definitely have many cold protection methods eespecially the first few years, trust me i will have mrs laura's help for protection hesr are perfect as everyone has seen! My dogs name is Irie (jamaica...) and she is 71/2 months english retriever. shes always around with me everywhere obsessed with outside life.thanks jimhardy she has grown sooo fast! the banana is musa orinocco. i have a huge list of palms i want soon as im sure many of us do! so ill keep you posted thanks again for the comments! -Justin in VB

Laura, thanks, my camera is actually an older model Sony-for-Doofuses, auto-everything: DSC T700. I just keep half-pressing the shutter until it auto-focuses on exactly what I want to capture. I got it to replace a big bulky Sony when my baby came along and I needed a small one I could slip into a pocket and chase him around with. Still no word on the PSA site about the sale. Last year's was on July 31st in Merrill Center at Katy, Texas. Will let you know as soon as I see any more info. Bill, what is that last hibiscus, the gold and orange? It is SPECTACULAR! Sunseeker, those gorgeous hibiscus I have are in 3-gallon pots on my deck. I found them, two to a pot, at Lowe's for $7! If I overwinter them in the garage I'll easily get several years enjoyment from them, so I think they're great value and a lot of color in a small space. If you put them in the ground where the temps don't go below 30 they should come back year after year, but they'll also get pretty big. Keep them in a container and pruned and they'll be nice and compact and still bloom prolifically if you feed them frequently. They also only need part sun in most of the southern half of the country.

loveplants2: Nice blooms, do they smell? Can't wait to see other blooms. Lets hope for long warm fall. What on earth do you do with the agave in the winter? Looks really big to be moving inside...ouch!

They do have a very nice fragrance...very sweet smell...this is the plant that I told you about (scoring at the nursery!!!)LOL :)

Yes... my Agave comes into my great room every fall...I have to clip off some of the points since I'm tired of being pierced everywhere!!! LOL... I really want to try to plant it into my garden...but am afraid of losing it durng the winter...I have tried to over winter some of the babies from this blue and also my varigated agave...they have died back some ... but this big guy is special!!!
My family stops breathing when I move it into the house...once you get poked...you stay away!!! LOL

I have other inflos...hopefully we will have a warm fall...I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!
I have a jar of Pindo Jelly with your name on it if you like!!!

The east coast is predicted to have a mild fall, so you might get some blooms in before they have to go inside for the winter. Im still waiting on my "pretty princess" plumeria which is going strong, but very slow.

I use a fingernail clipper to do the points of my agaves. It works well! Those are seriously unfriendly plants.

Thanks MyerMike...she is my first...This bloom stayed around for a long time...so sad when I finally had to cut off the stem :( Hopefully I'll have another before the really cool nights set in...

Dave....I like the fingernail method on the Agave tips...I would always use sissors or my shears...maybe even a chain saw...LOL Only kidding....Those tips are very lethal...Great for a personal weapon if needed!!!! LOL

Malibu Rose....I Love the desert plants as well as the tropicals...I have them mixed all around my deck...quite the contrast!!! thanks for your kind comment!!!

I think it has about 3 weeks before the first bloom. Its indoors now in a warm room so im hoping that will make the blooms as nice and colorful as possible.

Ill definately be sharing pics when it blooms.
