My other Palms in Va Beach!

Heres some of my other palms i couldn't fit on the other post so i added them to this one! hope you like them i will be getting more nice rare palms soon and i will be sure to post pics. i am also building a huge greenhouse this next month so we will see how that goes! thanks again to you all, Really! -Justin in Vb

Those are FANTASTIC!!!...I'd LOVE to have a Travelers Palm but not sure they would grow here :(

Hi Marie!! So nice to see you!! I hope you are doing well and that your collection had rebound from your loss years ago. It was a hard winter again for us this year and I did have damage to a few Palm trees, but they finally made a come back.. Hoping they will again. You are so funny about my Plumeria collection! I do have it bad and I have been really good about trying to select and thin down, but its not working to well. I do have a few and thanks to LISA! ;-). She has called me out on how many I have since we had a fun contest over there at the Plumeria forum a few days ago. I had to admit how many I had.., It was a blast ! Lisa is a new Plumeria enthusiast and I'm trying to help her along .... We all remember those who come forward and help instead of lurking and being over helping out. It does mean a lot to them and it certainly makes me feel good. So Marie.. Are your trees doing well? Have you added to your COT collection too? I haven't been over to the Adenoum forum lately.. I really need to go over and say hi! I did count my collection the others day since we are changing up my backyard deck area. We made some benches to add to the side yard to place some of my trees on. Some of my friends call them bleachers LOL!!!! I'm really glad to hear from you. I haven't been on the forums to much and I try to get back to say hello to my friends. Just sent Pug a few trees last year and she just sent a pic of how they are leafing out.. I am so pleased.. I didn't realize reed grass was anything special or tender, since it's everywhere here . I pulled mine out because it grew too tall in my garden. Replaced it and some other too tall grasses and shrubs to make room for hardy palms.

Statenislandpalm, Sorry that I missed your post... Thank you so much for the great compliments!!! You are right on with the Jungle Golf site at the beach!!! They probably were the very first to plant Sabals here in VB. I even called them along time ago when I first thought about trying to grow them here at my house... We used to wrap them in black plastic to winter them over!! LOL...we sure have come along way from the early eighties (late 70's) when they first planted them!! I'm glad you had a great visit here in Vb...Pungo Palms has some great things!! Looks like you had a car full of plants and trees when you had to head back north!! The pictures on the other post of your plants and trees look great!! Have a great summer everyone!!! P.S. I did manage to capture some of that rain from the last storm!!! Hello Everyone, Thanks for the comments on my first blooms of the season!!! Dpolson...Thanks again for the DR. Did you see it in the last picture? I need to send you more of the cannas & EE's (the ginger is also sprouting) I know what you mean as far as space is concerned. My house is empty during the school season, but this week my daughter is home from Fort Bragg (Her hubby is over in Agft.) My son is home from VT. So the house is alive again with everyone around!!! Love the photo of your littleone!!! TZ7....My Noid has been a great Plumeria! This is the second year it has bloomed for me and I am very pleased with it as well!! My little dog loves all of the scents that are in my backyard..she is enjoying the gardenias more than anything. The first thing in the morning she has to go and smell the flowers. (Never seen anything like her!!!) My Plumerias have been really growing quite fast in the last 2 weeks. I repotted some of the little ones and used that new potting mix with guano (Hydroponics store) and mixed with cactus mix, perlite and lava stones. They have really responed to the change in soil!!! Good Luck with your plants...please keep your great pictures coming!!! (can't wait for your Divine to bloom!!) Dave...How are you doing up North? How are your trees? I doubled up on the large pots on my deck...and I will look for larger pots to set them in (with the mulch around them) that sounds like a great idea!! Thank you for that!! I love that pink plumeria and yes it is a keeper!! I think that I have enough trees now (Yea right!! LOL !!) The toilet paper rolls are a new trend in the Plumeria world!! Tree decorations!!! LOL !! They look great don't they? LOL!!! My kids thought I was losing it when I started collecting them along with paper towel rolls...I use them for the stem burn. The sun gets so hot in the back deck area and around the pool that it was burning some of the new stem cuttings. It helps protect the stems that need it until the leaves can grow to protect on it's own. They really work well!!! (Thanks to Bill for the suggestion!!!) Hope all is well with you and your family!!! I really enjoy seeing what you have accomplished and one of the great feats is that you have done this in Virgina Beach. I like the idea of a big greenhouse for potted palms to overwinter and the technique of planting a palm on an angle. Where on earth did you buy all these palms?

I also would still keep in mind some cold protection ideas just in case some artic air ever dips your way. I would perhaps delay cleaning the trunks of washys and other palms until they had a full year to establish and thus be more cold tolerant.

If you still have room, how about a potted coconut palm? I grew a real large one in a pot here in NYC.

Brooklyn- thanks again... yeah i was born in my mothers house here in va beach and still live in va beach. i got tired of seeing her house with the same landscaping as everyone else bushes and shrubs also huge trees, too many...anyway especially when i love palms so i changed her yard. I will start the greenhouse soon its kinda in my head haha. i bought the palms all over some down south personally, some e-bay, some online nurseries, friends. I definitely agree with you totally about the cleaning the trunks, i mainly did that washingtonia becase the trunk was sooo messed up anyway i couldnt look at it any longer. I will definitely have many cold protection methods eespecially the first few years, trust me i will have mrs laura's help for protection hesr are perfect as everyone has seen!
My dogs name is Irie (jamaica...) and she is 71/2 months english retriever. shes always around with me everywhere obsessed with outside life.thanks jimhardy she has grown sooo fast! the banana is musa orinocco.
i have a huge list of palms i want soon as im sure many of us do! so ill keep you posted thanks again for the comments! -Justin in VB

PS. Laura if you see this, the hardy hibiscus is blooming an incredible burgundy-red. Can you believe it grow so fast!
