HELP worm like bugs in my seedlings

I have a small portable greenhouse that I'm using to overwinter my seedlings from fall. some of them have began dying and when I dug around in the pot, righ underneath the soil are this tiny worm like bugs and they seem to be doing the damage. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them, please!!! I'm hoping to be able to save the majority and I don't want to kill the seedlings.

Your potting soil may have the larva of the Fungus Gnat, a very small insect pest and the larva feed on plant roots and soil organic matter. The single reason Fungus Gnats develop and grow is that the soil is kept too wet.

Sounds like they just rotted from being in the ground & not divided up for 8+ years. They could have frozen or been too wet over the winter. The earthworms wouldn't eat your tubers but could have found the mush & eaten that if the tubers had rotted in the ground. As for the centepede looking things- I've seen them around but they don't appear to have eaten any of our tubers- I think the creatures have found the remains of the tubers after the they've rotted & decided it was a free lunch!

I suspect they are Bagworms and not mites. There has been a large infestation here in the midwest this year. I don't like to use chemicals and usually pick them off. No way this year as there are to many. Spray in the evening and use spreader sticker. If 1 survives and hangs on the tree till next season it becomes your next years crop of these critters. The cocoon or bag is home for the babies till next June. Make sure you get them all. If all foliage is gone and limbs are dead so is your conifer. These critters are an every year occurance. The small brownish "eggs" that popped were slow-release fertilizer. Eggs will squish. Don't know what the "worms" are. Can ou post images?
