no snow here, although I did see a small puddle that froze next to a curb this morning. The car said it was 19 degrees outside at 8:15. BRRR.

I saw a gulf fritillary in my driveway flowerbed this morning. Poor thing. I can't imagine it survived.

No snow, but more than enough wind from that iceberg at the North Pole. First time this year that all 6 rabbit water pans had half an inch of ice on them; same for the chicken pans. One day closer to July 4th :) et

it was for sure chilly. No snow, ice, or frost here in tulsa.

The WUG site 4 miles from me recorded 5.2 degrees for ten minutes right at sunrise. It is 39 here now. So warming up. A low around 20 tonight and then upper 20's or warmer for lows the rest of the week. All I have in the lean to is celery. So just moved it into the house and turned the heater off in there last night. It is 85 in there now and moved the celery back. I need to get my onions started and then will move them out there after they emerge. Will keep the heater on then. No snow here. The only snow was sw of us and moved to the E/SE so missed us. Jay

No snow here, thank goodness. Last night's forecast was for 21 and we hit 20. Tonight's forecast low is 11 which I'm pretty sure would set some kind of record. It hardly ever makes it to the low teens here. I don't care how cold it gets as long as it stays dry. I do not like ice unless it's in my drink. And it's too cold to even want that.

Ice is no fun but I do love snow. The first year that I lived in AZ, I worked and lived up high in the mountains, with a climate similar to Boulder, CO, except drier. We actually had the heaviest snowstorm of my entire life that spring ( I grew up in CO, and have only lived in northern states except here and OK).
40 inches in 36 hours! It was so beautiful and nice! I loved it, although I was seriously snowed in and it took 3 different tow truck companies to finally make it up the steep hill to my house to get me out. I was on call that weekend but never got called. I guess they would have had to send the helicopter or something, although they weren't flying. I have no idea how I would have gone into work. Hike, maybe, it was 2-3 miles of deep snow.

Jay - you grow celery?? Wow, I've never met a celery grower. I didn't get my onion seed planted in October. Don't know if it's too late.

Something is wrong when we southern Oklahomans get snow and ice and the rest of you don't. I feel like the unlucky one in terms of weather, but usually y'all get more ice and snow than we do, so I guess it was just our turn this time.

All the snow is gone, at least in areas with full sun. Some shady areas still had a little snow left at sunset.

The garden survived last night, though some plants had that slightly-freeze-burned discoloration and wilt, but not enough to do real harm. The real harm probably will occur tonight.

Our forecast for tonight is 18, and our local TV met said some low-lying areas might hit 12 or 13. The lettuce is securely covered up with blankets that are tied down, so maybe the trough full of lettuce will make it through tonight. After that we start warming up again, and will stop worrying about snow and cold temps and instead worry about elevated fire danger.

Tracy, I like snow but not ice, and we ice down here on the roads fairly often, but snow less often. When it is icy we cannot make it up our sloping driveway. It was an awful day on the roads near us, with one fatality accident on the interstate, and multiple wrecks on the Red River Bridge between Gainesville and Thackerville. In one of those wrecks, a gentleman either jumped off the bridge to avoid being hit by oncoming cars that were sliding on the ice, or he was ejected off the bridge when his vehicle wrecked. Either way, they airlifted him to Plano Medical Center. I suspect he is feeling lucky to be alive. From the bridge to the ground underneath (there's not much water down there at the moment as the Red River is really low) would have been a fall of roughly 20-25'. In another motor vehicle accident closer to our house, someone had their teeth knocked out. I am assuming their face hit the steering wheel. Our son was on his way to work at 4 am when an out-of-control vehicle on the Red River Bridge narrowly missed him. It was just a scary day here and all because of a piddly bit of snow and ice that did nothing to put real moisture back into the parched ground. I would rather have had a good, old-fashioned thunderstorm dump a lot of rain, or even just a moderate amount of rain.

Leslie, For some odd reason, even though Love County in general has pretty mild winter weather, we seem to almost always have at least one brutally cold spell in early to mid-December. After that, our weather is usually pretty nice for the rest of the month. The lowest we've been, I think, since we moved here was 1 degree, and I was in total shock. Down in Fort Worth we rarely went down into the teens, so to hit 1 degree only 80 miles further north was unreal.

The heavier snow was north of Ardmore, more in the Arbuckle Mountains area and they really had a mess up there, with the big semi trucks having trouble staying on the road and climbing the hills.

I put out feed for the deer and birds this morning and we had tons of wildlife coming to eat all day long. Oddly, our lily pond water was warm enough that its surface didn't freeze, although there was a light skim of ice right up against the edge where the water meets the land.

We still had lots of flowers in bloom yesterday, but not so many of them left today.

Is winter over yet? I'm ready for spring.
