I'm in central VA and we are predicted to get 5-10". It's supposed to start later tonight. I've got fixings for lasagna, vegetable beef soup and I want to make bread in my new Zo bread machine. And yes, I made that run to the grocery store with everyone else! I'm a retired teacher so I still get a bit excited about snow.

We're in Calgary, Canada. No snow today but the white stuff is in the forecast for tomorrow and Sunday. We went shopping this morning. Then little man had a play date with his buddy this afternoon. By the time the little boy's mom came to pick him up, I was pooped. Didn't feel like cooking anything. Hubby and little man had quick and dirty omelet on toasts for dinner. As for me, I had been snacking all day to stay awake... too full to eat anything else.

I am going cross country skiing tomorrow so may start something in the crock pot before leaving the house. If not, the two boys will be eating pizza from the freezer for lunch.

No football this Sunday; the three of us will just have something simple. Will cook more for Super Bowl Sunday; eat lots of junk then! :-)

No snow at all here... just bone chilling cold :-( Got take out pizza for tonight since I am too tired to cook and going out with friends tomorrow night. The Little Gourmand requested French Dip so I will probably put that on for Sunday.

NO snow here. But I made a big pot of lima bean soup just in case!

It's been snowing here since about 2:30 this afternoon, not much accumulation ....yet. They're predicting 3 to 9 inches by tomorrow afternoon, with more in the mountains. I have pizza dough in the freezer for tomorrow, maybe. There's enough left-over chuck roast for burritos which I have never made. Tacos and enchiladas, yes, but not burritos so we'll see how that goes. Also plenty of chili and hot tamales as well as vegetable soup in the freezer so I think we're all set.

If all else fails, there's always breakfast.

Since we live a good distance from a grocery and have been snowed-in before, I always keep a very well stocked pantry, freezer and fridge. We aren't expecting snow here, but its so cold, don't want to go out. We made this our dinner out night, will have beans and cornbread tomorrow night and possibly chicken and dumplings Sunday night. Didn't need to go to the grocery at all and even the GSD has plenty of food. When the blizzard of '78 hit us, we weren't expecting it and I think I had one roll of TP and about one meal worth of dog food for two huge dogs. At the time we lived only four blocks from a grocery, but it was miserable walking to the store and back and carrying a supply of those two items. Learned my lesson well.

Lots of cold, lots of seasonal snow--life in upstate NY. I made a mixed bean soup from a package that included different beans, barley and whole wheat pasta. No seasonings in the package. I added chicken broth, ham, carrots, shrimp and a splash of crab boil. Hubby proclaimed it one of the best soups he has ever had. High praise from a guy who thought he doesn't like lentils.

Just turned on the outside lights to see what's happening. Predictions are 8" - 12" and for Virginia, that's a lot. So far nothing. Did go to the stores today to get the fixings for chili. The stores were surprisingly empty when I went at 8:30 this morning. I guess everyone thought they would be too crowded today so they shopped yesterday. I have enough in my freezer and didn't really need to go but just felt like some chili.

Just sleet and rain here so far. Afraid of ice storm later tonight. DD lives about thirty minutes north and they have snow. School busses had a difficult time getting the kids home at 11:30 this morning.

Haven't had any snow lately here, either. But it is bitter cold and looks like it'll stay that way for a few more days.

Didn't really feel much like cooking tonight so I just made some Lumberjack Hash and a side of scrambled eggs for dinner.

Pantry and freezer are full, so I have lots of options for the weekend.

Hope those of you that aren't used to snow can get out and enjoy it! And those of you expecting ice storms...be careful, that stuff can be very dangerous!

I too feel the need to cook but I'm not sure what. I'm thinking maybe Chicken and Sliders but that isn't on Clive's Top Ten list. Maybe I'll do Stuffed Spareribs which are also not on his top ten list but I did make him stew last week so I have markers to call.

I'm not in the path of the current storm, but we keep getting winds out of the NW, very cold and as the winds come across Lake Michigan we get dumped on with lake effect snow. Have had at least a foot over the last few days. We are used to it though. In the winter I keep the pantry and freezer full.

I had to go out today so I did make a quick stop at the grocery. Picked up pork chops that we had tonight, a package of chicken thighs and a a big package of boneless skinless chicken breasts that was on special @1.78 lb. Couldn't pass the deal up. So I have everything that I need for whatever I decide to make...already have plenty of beef and pork in the freezer. Now to decide what sounds good...

Hey Theresa here in Eastern Nc the reports are all over the place from freezing rain (which I tend to believe to 7 inches of snow, which to be homest I say if it's going to snow...let it "really snow!" We have gumbo on the stove, so we are good to go! What in the world is it with everyone running to the store for bread, milk and toilet paper? Really what are they making, really bad bread pudding? I came from outside of Philly and it was the same there, do people really believe we will be snowed in THAT long?? I do hope everyone is safe and warm! Gina

I made a big pot of chile verde stew and jalapeno cornbread muffins yesterday and it was so good. We had it last night and today at lunch. I don't know what I will fix tomorro, don't have a plan yet.

Yesterday morning it started raining, then freezing rain and was snowing by 10:30. It finally quit middle of the afternoon today and it is cold. But the snow is not the problem, it is the ice. We lost power twice yesterday and then today. But so far we are the lucky ones, from 2 miles east of town to 60 miles, they are still out of power and it may be a week before it is all restored. The power lines are just covered in ice, there are 22 poles down just outside of town. Everytime the electricity goes out or just flutters I just hope and pray that it comes back on, quick as possible.

Funny, but not really, Wednesday it was 69 degrees outside. I did a little cleanup outside and noticed my tulips and other bulbs were coming up. Go figure!

Hummmm...they are talking rain, with no impact on our temps--50's at night, 60-70's during the days. Our Canadian friends will be happy. Some of them were down here in December and froze their bippies. Happier with the current temps.

Teresa, I have friends up in that area and was wondering how bad this was going to get them. It wasn't predicted to hit here in Atlanta area till late next week.. Surprise, it's coming in tonight and it's supposed to be sleet and a little snow. Bad news since the temps are going to keep it icy if it does. Like you, I know it doesn't seem like much to some on the forum, but for the south it's so dangerous because we're not prepared for it.

They're calling for 10-12" of snow in Richmond but it hasn't started yet - just frigid temps. Tomorrow I'm making broccali(sp) cheddar soup & maybe artisan bread; Sunday, I may cook a Purdue oven-stuffer. With the highs only being in the lower 20's, it's a good weekend to keep the oven blasting. Keep warm, everybody!

Last night by 9:00 we had only about an inch. This morning it is more like 6-8 inches and I heard and felt freezing rain/sleet when I took out the dog at 7:30. Falling stuff is supposed to continue off and on until midnight tonight. I don't think it will be melting anytime soon as the temps are expected to be as low as 12 and only as high as the 20's.

The weather is a good excuse to stay home, clean out the fridge, do some baking, and catch up on my quilting and weaving projects!

Teresa - I'm near Concord. We have about 3 1/2 inches of snow on the deck this morning. The kids can hardly contain themselves! I also made the grocery store run with all the other maniacs, but I went because I was truly out of bread and milk. The chili beans are on the stove! (and the kids have already had a bowl of snowcream - yuck).

Yep, we got snow :) About 10" here in west TN. It was sleeting yesterday morning then turned into snow. Everything started shutting down as soon as the snow started. Snow is so rare here that we are in no way equipped to deal with this much of it! I'm from OH so it's not a big deal to me but people here can't drive in it. It's safer all around if everyone just stays home! Anyways, we got the day off school yesterday and I've already made cookies and a nice dinner-buffalo chicken sandwiches and roasted potatoes. Going to make waffles this morning! Maybe some bread this afternoon. Everyone stay safe and warm. Here's my snow angels playing yesterday.

No snow here on Long Island, but man is it cold. 18 right now only to climb into the low twenties for the day.

Having some friends over tonight to just hang out - very casual...there will be 8 of us. Planned to make assorted paninis (prosciutto and arugula, mushroom/zucchini, meatball - all with mozzarella).

Sides will be a big green chopped salad and pasta salad with sausage and broccoli rabe.

It's been snowing in Baltimore since mid-morning, a light fluffy snow, very pretty. I have about 3 inches so far, and it's coming down pretty hard. I cleaned the bird feeders and window sills and put seed out. The cats are just taking it easy. One is sleeping in my arms, and the other one is just sleeping. I'm definitely coming back as a cat.

We got about 3 inches of snow but it's been a wintry mix off and on all day with temperature hovering around 34 degrees, but down in the teens tonight.

I made sausage rolls and scrambled eggs for breakfast with apple sauce and pear preserves (on the side). Beef burritos for supper and Annie/Pixistix's Hot Milk cake in the oven.

Well, surprise! We are getting some snow just outside of Philadelphia. Light and fluffy. It's very pretty and not supposed to accumulate. I was out running errands when it started and was surprised that the roads were a little slippy. I think I need new tires, too.

I already have enough food in the house to last for a month, so I am not cooking anything more.

I'm in VA also and we've had snow coming down since about 8:00 a.m. We just got over the 2 feet about 6 weeks ago and now it's coming down pretty strong. I don't mind. I have a stocked house, heat, roof over my head and a new puppy who just loves it!

We are having spaghetti tonight. I've had the sauce cooking away for the last few hours and it's smelling good. Crusty bread and salad along side. Dessert is chocolate cake with butter cream icing (I made it yesterday).

The sun came out today and some of our ice is beginning to melt. Thank goodness.

Yesterday I put a pot of pinto beans on the stove to simmer away all afternoon. Corn bread, fried potatoes, and a slice of raw onion was dinner for me. Made some bread and dinner rolls for the freezer too.

The chicken and dumplings are simmering, making the house smell warm and cozy. I've been weaving this afternoon and watching William and Mary - a UK TV series. Really good!

Today I took out the pooch w/o a leash because there is no traffic on my street at all, except for the city scraping truck that came by this afternoon. He had such a good time running in the snow. We've got a thick ice layer with loose snow on top. He still wants me out there with him and was too cold this afternoon to frolic much. He kept breaking the ice layer and falling thru which hampered his running about because he is a little fellow, a mini poodle.

Both of us have colds. As Christy was hacking across the pillow the other night I knew my turn was coming and sure enough yesterday it set in. So today as I mentioned on the spilt pea thread we made two pounds of split pea soup. I was going to make biscuits but wasn't feeling that great so we are having toast croutons with it. That's what my Mother always made so that's always nice to have good memories along with a bowl of goodness. I love cornbread with it but Christy doesn't so I if I feel better tomorrow I'll make some so I can have it for a couple days while I have the soup for breakfast and lunch. Smiles.

Tomorrow, since she's not quite up to par, Christy is going to make one of her comfort foods, weenie stew. Hot dogs cooked in a tomato sauce with N.O. seasonings [grn. pepper, onion, celery and garlic] and served over mashed potatoes. Surprisingly good and super easy.

It finally started snowing here. Everything has a good covering but that's about it so far. It has been quite cold. Ten in the mornings and up to about sixteen during the day. It stays colder here on our little hill than the surrounding area.

Hopefully we won't get this much this time. Smiles. Just thought I'd throw this pet pic in. This was from our Dec. blizzard.

This weekend we have had temps below zero and the wind chill just adds to it. Had a few snow squalls but nothing stuck. I made an apple pie but forgetful me didn't brush the top crust with egg and creme so it looked ugly. Dry and hardly browned at all. (rule #1 in baking-Don't Rush!) We went out for dinner last night so didn't have to cook. Today we are making waffles and thick sliced bacon for breakfast, pulled bbq pork for dinner tonight. Yep, when it's cold outside the best thing to do is stay inside and cook. Stay warm everyone! NancyLouise

No work today because of the snow (12" in Richmond) so I got around to baking 2 stollens (apricot w/clementine glaze). The house smelled wonderful & the taste was equally delicious. I thought of taking a photo, but by that time, we'd already gobbled most of one of them, & the other had glaze that was less than photogentic.

Anyhow...yep we got snow. My town had the distinction of getting the most in the area, 3 inches of no measurable amount, when 15 miles "that way" they got less than 1/2 an inch.

No but we have a state of emergency in all islands because of a heavy rain storm that has caused flooding and washed out roads, hail on the mountain and ravines turned into gushing rivers. It was predicted as a thunderstorm which it was and will go on until tomorrow, when schools on all seven islands will be closed because of weather.
Airports are closed or with many cancellations.

We were lucky on our side of the island not to have much more than heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

And we still have electricity, so perhaps by tomorrow afternoon it will be sunny again.

Teresa, we got lucky this go around and kept our power. Computer and router problems was another issue. My computer guy just left and hopefully took care of all the damage I did trying to fix it myself. LOL

Just came in from taking the dog out one last time. So much ice and jagged chunk ice all over the yard, sidewalk, and road. I had trouble getting out of my driveway this morning. But made it to the office with no problems.

Tomorrow evening we are due for.......freezing rain! And this weekend.......more freezing rain and snow!
