Hi All,

It is called Isocol, you get it from a chemist.

It has a little crocodile on the green bottle.

Most ppl dilute rubbing alcohol with water; I have used it diluted and full strength. I use 90% without any problems. Just make sure plants are not in full sun while being sprayed & wet. What plants, and what pests are you trying to get rid of?

Many soaps are detergents - just take time to look up ingredients in them. Dishwashing liquids are the same if not worse. Dawn has been recommended a lot as it is supposedly mild, and yet - here are the ingredients: Sodium Laureth Sulfate Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Sodium Chloride Lauramine Oxide Denat. Alcohol PPG-26 PEG-8 Propylheptyl Ether PEI-14 PEG-10/PPG-7 Copolymer Phenoxyethanol Methylisothiazolinone Colorants It isn't such good idea to use these on plants, since they are designed to dissolve grease - oils, fats, waxes. It will do the same to plants leaves. Soaps made from naturals oils and fats are much safer for plants (like Castile soap). There are Insecticidal soaps available, made specially for use on plants. These are made only with potassium (no sodium) and long chain fatty acids, and are much milder on plants. I am sure occasional use of few drops of dishwashing liquid and regular soap will not kill plants, but it may be better to get used to other products in the long run...

The white streaks could be one of two things: excess paint that didn't come off cleanly, or a bit of residue from a dirty cloth. The polyurethane won't have much issue with rubbing alcohol. But the alcohol should be 90% or higher...not the 70% usually found at drug stores. I would simply grab some CLEAN cotton cloths (a whole schwack of them) and start cleaning up the white streaks with more rubbing alcohol. Start with a small patch (like 6inch x 6inch) and see if MORE cleaning with the alcohol will work. If it does....then you know the answer is MORE cleaning. Keep going. Change cloths OFTEN... like every 3-4 spots. Clean rags = clean floor. Please open up the windows and have EXCELLENT ventilation. Using rubbing alcohol in a confined space can make people dizzy, create headaches and nausea. If you want you can run a fan as well.

You will learn with time that some plants will tolerate one spray but not the other. One I would never mix two chemicals. Dawn will strip the leaves and alcohol will desiccate the leaves. Use them together is probably the problem. Always test the tolerance of the plants outside of direct light for 24-48hours before you decide if it's safe to spray on the whole plant. Alcohol will kill the adults and the crawlers, so there is no need for the dawn soap. Insecticidal soap is used to kill the crawlers, but not the adults. So, you just need the alcohol. Then follow-up with a different treatment in a week or two. Rotating back and forth for months, even after you think they are gone they may still be alive, so don't stop until you have not seen any of them in a three months. If you bug that looks like a gnat, but it's not a gnat, it might be an adult male. Even if you don't see any fuzzies, if the male is alive then you have females alive somewhere as well. Keep at it.

A further thought re- Beckam, he's been damn near useless in the USA due to injury problems, perhaps someone could tip him off about Australian rubbing alcohol! ;-)

He certainly has it good in the USA, getting paid and not having to play!

Most woman think he is just perfect, but I am not one of those woman. Does nothing for me.

Come to think of it I don't believe that his first priority in going to the USA was to play at all, I imagine it was probably a second attempt to re-launch the "Beckam Brand" - the current success of which looks like it requires some of that good old Australian rubbing alcohol after all!
I prefer the sipping kind m'self.
