?? cause of pattern on leaves

I posted this on the tree forum, but have not had answer:

I just picked up a weeping yoshino cherry tree ~ 7 feet in height. Once I got it home, I noted a number of leaves had a yellow mid leaf lightening bolt pattern. It is present only on some leaves, but fairly widespread. I also noted these same leaves were smaller than others, and tended to curl. A few branches have normal sized leaves. There is no evidence of other disease, and the tree appears vigorous with next years buds forming.None of the leaves are brown or have holes eaten in them. The nursery said it was a leaf miner. Is this is some type of virus? If it is a virus, what effect does that have on the tree long term? I know this variety is not known for longevity.
