Red Flag Fire Warrning for NE & Eastern OK

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The Tulsa office of the NWS has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning for many counties in northeastern and eastern Oklahoma and some adjacent counties in Arkansas from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. this evening.

A Red Flag Fire Warning is a serious warning that Extreme Fire Danger exists in and near the warned area. If you are in an area with dry dormant vegetation resulting from either long-term drought or recent freezing weather, the risk is high since dormant vegetation burns easily.

With high winds, fires can move very quickly if they start.

Please be careful y'all, stay tuned to your NOAA weather radio (they sometimes issue fire evacuation warnings at the request of local emergency managers) and local media, and report all smoke and other signs of fire to local authorities.

Fire Weather conditions are expected to remain high over the weekend and further fire weather watches or warnings may be issued. To see Thursday's warned area, go to the linked Tulsa NWS webpage. You can click on any county shaded hot pink to read the text of the warning.
