Red Flag Fire Warning Tues. (Incl. OKC)

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The NWS has issued a Red Flag Fire Warning for a large portion of the state today. This goes pretty far east in OK, including Ponca City, OKC, Chandler and Stillwater.

If you are in NE OK, some of your counties have a Red Flag Fire Warning too, but the map can only show one "color" at a time and at present the Freezing Warning blue still shows. After that warning goes away, I'll post a separate thread showing your Fire warning area.

All the usual concerns and cautions about fire are in effect. PLEASE call in and report any fire you see unless you are positive firefighters are already at that fire. In these conditions, fires can spread quickly. The firefighters have the best success containing the fire when they can get to it quickly before it has spread too much, and in these conditions fire will spread quickly.

Expect similar conditions all week although they may not rise to the level of a Red Flag Fire Warning every day.

Check the map linked below to see if your area is included in the Fire Warning area but also remember that we are in drought and fires can and do start even in areas that do not have a Red Flag Fire Warning.

If you're hardening off seedlings or tranplanting warm-season crops into the ground today, remember that the same conditions that contribute to fire are hard on young plants, so be sure yours get adequate moisture and protection from the wind.
