grape's, black spot.

Every year I've had problems with my grapes, I've finally arrived at a point to where I believe it is black spot, I've heard it is a problem here in Okla.

I don't want to use the poison sprays most place's recommend, so I'm looking for something organic.

From what I understand black spot is a fungal disease,

so the first thing I'm going to do is clean of the top layer of dirt under the vines to make sure there are no old mummified grapes in or on the ground to spread the spores and then spray the ground as well as the vines.

I've narrowed down the product I'm thinking about using to a product called actinovate wyec108 which they say is composed of a beneficial bacteria that inhibits and kills the predatory fungus. Of course there is so much hype about all of these different products it's hard to tell what is truth or fiction.

Now I don't know a lot about grapes, but I'm sure some of you out there do, so I'm wondering if any of you could recommend something organic that you have had good luck with for black spot, of course I realize I may thinking about this all wrong so I would appreciate any comments any of you may have.

Below is a link to a discussion of my grape woes--and 9 follow-ups. I tried using "Garden Safe" brand of organic fungicide but it was useless. I then resorted to copper fungicide, but I later learned it works best as a prevention rather than a remediation.

Otherwise, I've had no luck battling black spot, probably because I have a very short attention span and I'm not prepared to undertake guerrilla warfare against the stuff.

I forgot to mention that I had tried to find something about grapes that had already been posted but for some reason nothing would come up, I don't know If asked the question wrong or what, anyway I wasn't being lazy about it, I just couldn't find anything,

I took some pictures of the grapes today and they are continuning to get more yellow and some of the leaves are dieing and falling off. This is only on the bottom 2 1/2 feet of the plant. I see no insects and other than the leaves changing color the plant looks healthy. What kind of plant food is for grapes, all I have on hand is miracle gro but it doesn't mention grapes. I have been watering about once a week in the large rubbermaid containers, do you think that is too much or not enough? It almost reminds me of when they might die off and loose their leaves at the end of the season. These are Flame grapes and the tag says they ripen in August so it seems a little early to die off. I have only 1 little bunch of grapes, I just planted them last year. I did notice today that a couple of the grapes are starting to turn a little redish color..Any suggestions....

Did you plant them both this year? If not when? Is the entire vine affected? I'm wondering if perhaps this vine is running short of water for one reason or another. In case you did plant it this year -- if it doesn't improve soon, I suggest you start over with a new plant next year.

It sounds like erineum mites. If so, only esthetic. But they won't go away if you ignore them. They're very tiny mites which over-winter underneath the bud scales

There are over a hundred different strains of black spot. I'm sure they don't all present in the same manner. This may just be a different strain from what you usually have. You don't say where you are so I can't say if it could be weather related or not.

I just wish there were some way to grow great juicy grapes here without having to make the chore a full-time job and without buying so many chemicals that Monsanto stock would uptick three points just on the prospect of someone else trying to grow grapes in Oklahoma. If you find the solution to the problem please do let the rest of us know.
