I would leave it alone. There is a house by me that had a "stick" in their front yard that had actually died. Not like yours. They left it in the ground, and now a year later, it has branches that have actually grown from the ground, watch your plant, it should branch off. I would leave it alone so not to stress it any further. don't give up on it, You are right to plant the others as cuttings. If the break is not clean, I would recut the end at a slant, and let it scab over for a couple of weeks before planting. Good luck!

Dear Friends, The tree in this thread grew from a cutting I brought back from Maui about 8 years ago. I've kept it alive and reasonably well even in this relatively-cold clime, though it has been plagued, each winter, by spider mites. Due to the climate and the mites, it has only bloomed once, long ago. Then last year the branch was broken that gave rise to this thread and the things I've learned here have helped me make my plumeria a much happier plant. The result is that it is blooming! In addition, I have two cuttings, both of which are putting out new leaf spikes (though I've seen no roots yet and am following directions until I do). So I wanted to share them with you, who have done so much to help make it happen. Thanks again for your time and energy and knowledge and encouragement! Andrew, I typically like to clean up the break on both the branch and the parent plant. Let the parent plant dry out once you have cleaned up the break and then seal with caulk or pruning sealer or liquid electrical tape. I use George's "Citizen Insane" pre rooting method...Once I cleanly cut the broken branch I like to dip it into rooting hormone so along with the sap it creates a "crust" then place in a humidity chamber or cover it with mulch in a box to callus. You can also wrap it with a damp shop rag/towel and leave it alone for a couple of weeks if you are pressed for time or space. Just find a way to let it heal in a high humidity warm location. By the time its callused you will probably need a heat mat to help it root. So if you dont have one of those you should go ahead and order it or buy locally. After that its just a matter of the bag method or the clear cup method. Either one should work. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

BltPruf 1) Larger Mature cuttings tend to root more readily then smaller ones, so Id leave it as a whole cutting. You may be able to cut up the cuttings and graft them if you have root stock to graft it to. Clare Corre lives in Camarillo near Las Posas Berries. If you contact her she maybe able to help you graft and she has a ton of exotic varieties of Plumeis from Thailand, India and all over. 2) It may not be too late to root it but Id start sooner then later. As it is a large cutting you may not need to really let it heal as long, 3 days maybe enough just use rooting hormone or a rooting gel. The wind storm hit my patch on Wed night and my Hilo Beauty had several large brances break off from other trees falling on her. 3) Rooting hormone is it. If your plumie is a red variety you may want to graft it as Reds are temperamental, especially this time of year. Good Luck
