Someone Please tell me What and How...

Alright... Something has been killing me and I have to ask if anyone has the answer. I'm in the Dallas area and the Dallas World Aquarium has several Spindle Palms outside in the middle of downtown. There are also several large Pigmy Date Palms in this bunch.... SO, how are they going to keep these alive during a Dallas winter? Here is a picture of the entrance and some of the subjects in question. I saw no evidence that they plan to enclose this area. Any ideas?

It gets down into the twenties several times every winter. On occuasion we see temps into the teens and every decade or so it dips into single digits. There is a lot of concrete downtown but the wind whips through the streets and I can't imagine how in the world they are going to keep these guys alive.

Back of my mind I'm thinking... "if they can do it I want to know how cause I want to steal their secrets" :)

ncgardengirl, oh boy, where to start. My best advice to you is go read everything on the site listed below. it is by far the best source of information I've found online. I don't know anything about onions, sorry. Your hard pan 1' down isn't a huge problem, till as deep as you can so you'll get the most room for the roots to grow. Please don't leave your garlic bulbs in the ground, dig them out now and cure them. if you allow the bulbs to remain in the soil they will grow again but in a big clump as each clove with make a new plant. How old was she, what was her career, and what did her husband do? What's in the box? Can you straighten the stuff out so we can tell what hooks to what? Like what the cord on the clamps hooks to? And a better view of the headpiece or whatever those cups are? Vintage electronic has its collectors

If the plant can withstand a strong stream of water, it can actually crush or kill these soft bodied insects. At the very least, it will dislodge them and make them more vulnerable to predation. But nothing, not even insecticides, will keep them way permanently. Insecticides that are effective against aphids are usually contact insecticides.......they will kill by smothering but the insects must be present and come in contact with the product. Anything you use - water or something stronger - will need to be repeated as necessary :-) Spider mites like conditions to be hot and dry. Spraying the plants down periodically will create a more humid environment that the mites dislike and they will stay away.

Can someone please tell me what is going on in my basement?

We had a bad flood in our basement after a big rain fall. There was over 6 inches of water and our brand new floating floor had to be removed. We still don't understand what happened. We had someone come for an inspection and said it was groundwater. However, I took this video of the sewage drain pipe when there was another bad rainfall. Why does the water seem to moving into the house? I also have attached photos of where water seems to be coming up from cracks in the basement floor? We have been here for 2 years and never had a problem with flooding. We think it might have to do the excavation when replacing the main water valve from our house to the street. Any ideas of how the sewer access pipe and ground water flooding might be related? What should we do to prevent this in the future? Is a plumber the right person to call? Thank you.

Just call them up, ask for the gardening manager, who will probably be glad to say what they do.

They may have sub-contracted all their plants (intall, maintenance, replacement) to a landscape/foliage company that may be less willing to talk.

I would like to know too. Please find out and ask them. I grow bottles and spindles and I want to know too.

I use to live in Ft Worth, and it does get cold there.

did you check for obvious signs of pots? i bet they are potted in the ground. if not, they could be annuals.

They have to be dug up and stored inside each year. I bet they are in pots.

If they are going to kill them, email me and let me know. I will drive out there to get it. I cant let a spindle that pretty go to waste. They better not kill it. I know people in FT Worth, I can call. Dont let them kill it.

How big is that spindle on the right side? Looks to have 3 foot of trunk.
