Nothing to worry about, the spathe starts to do that when it's starting to die. It'll make new blooms before you know it. :) Planto

Thank you for the responses! I apologize for the delay. The plant is located in our home office, eight to ten feet away from a west facing window where it gets bright, indirect light and doesn't get any direct sunlight. Currently it is near a heater, but this issue started last summer, long before there were any heaters near it, so I don't think that's the problem. We do let it get pretty cold (mid-60s) in our house, so it might be getting a bit chilly, but again this problem started in the summer, so it can't be that. The pot it's in is pretty large -- about 15 inches in diameter and 12 inches deep -- but the plant itself is pretty big (see photo). Right now, it's in Miracle Grow Organic Choice potting soil, with some extra perlite mixed in for better drainage. I'm concerned that the pot might be too big for it, but it's the same size pot it's been in for the past year. I usually water it about every three weeks and make sure the soil feels dry about an inch down before doing so. I came up with this schedule because I noticed that's about how long it took for the plant to begin to droop, and I wanted to spare it from drooping because I don't think that's good for the plant. I had been watering the plant until water came out of the bottom of the pot and letting it dry out between waterings because I've heard it's best to water deeply but less frequently, but lately I've been so afraid of over-watering that I'm watering more sparingly. We recently relocated, so the plant has moved around a lot in the past 6 or 7 months, and I suspect that's part of the problem. It went from my former office to my husband's office to our new house. The plant came into my care around October or November of 2014, and did really well (it always had at least one bloom) until it moved into my husband's office in May or June of 2015, which is when I started noticing the black spots. As you can see from the picture, one of its leaves is turning yellow (which is a new problem), and there are two or three with the same black spots it's been getting. It also seems to have lost its general "perkiness," for lack of a better word. This is the first plant I ever really cared about, and it started my growing obsession with houseplants, so I'd really like to save it if possible. I had hoped repotting it a couple months ago would cure it of its ailments -- and it did for a while, but they just came back. When I repotted, I noticed that the soil around the roots was pretty moist, so maybe it's holding water and preventing the roots from breathing? I think I need some better draining soil. If anybody has any suggestions for a good soil type, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Why not post a few more pictures including one of the soil and one of the whole plant, and tell us how you water and what kind of light the plant gets? I suggest you find out exactly what's wrong before doing anything else. Fortunately there are a lot of people here who have lots of experience raising all sorts of plants and dealing with just about any nasty thing that can harm them. I have a few guesses, but a little more information will help folks figure out what's going on and the best way to treat it. Fungus gnats live in the soil, so you have to do something to the soil to get rid of them. I treat them by periodically getting all of my plants to dry out at the same time, because they can't survive without wet soil. I've heard of people getting good results by dissolving part of a mosquito dunk in water and then watering lightly with it. I'm sure someone will pop in and give you some details. Often, the kind of wilting and yellowing leaves I see in your picture are signs of watering issues, and usually it's overwatering. Many people don't believe it's possible, but watering while the soil at the bottom of the pot is still wet keeps the rootlets that carry water to the plant from breathing and ends up killing them, making it look like the plant is thirsty when the problem is drowned roots. I can tell my plants are starting to get dry from their weight, but I check the soil moisture daily with a sharpened wooden dowel (just switched from a cheap moisture meter) stuck all the way to the bottom of the pot, and don't water until the first time the tip feels dry. At that point there's still moisture in the soil, but if I wait any longer the plant will wilt. At that point I water thoroughly until a lot of water has drained from the bottom of the pot and let the pot drain thoroughly. There are ways of helping this along, but we can get to that later. That has helped me find information regarding it's care, which seems to be a bit different than for peace lilies. floral_uk: Zimmerpflanzenerde is exactly what I have now and what seems not to be working very well. It's the best thing I could find in my area, though. I know I need to repot the plant, but my issue is that if this soil is not the right one for my plant, then I'm not sure what other kinds are available to me, so I'm trying to think of the best solution that I think I can manage. In every online resource I could find, the recommendation for anthurium is a soil composed of sphagnum peat moss, orchid bark, perlite, and sometimes regular houseplant soil. Orchid bark is something I've seen around here, so I'll see what I can do about that. Karen: Thanks for the tip about keeping the humidity high. I have been wetting the leaves of the plant (also to keep off dust), but I also saw today a recommendation for a tray of water with large pebbles in it so that the pot can sit on the pebbles, keeping the roots from becoming waterlogged, but the plant can enjoy the humidity as the water evaporates. It also looks nice, so I might try that out as well as misting the plant every day. I'll see what I can find to add to the soil to help it drain better. Thanks to everyone for the help!
