Is it the fall that I'm feeling?

We are supposed to drop below 60 for the fist time since early June (62 last night). It is very pleasant and fall like.It is 65 (73 in the house) at 11:40 and I have a fan blowing in and a fan blowing out. It is a nice litle break but will still be sunny and 81 tommorow for my kid's canoe trip. We all love home and our respective dream weather but this is in my opinion as nice as Michigan has to offer. 86 and low hummidity Sunday (Awesome). Then high 80s and humid all next week so everything will start to enjoy another little growth spurt.

Wouldn't that be a great workout video for winter time (down time for gardeners)? Somehow simulating all the moves we do a hundred times a day throughout the growing season. Fall comes and BAM! down I sit, and that's it til spring (usually 10 or so pounds heavier). I always find that this time of year is the worst - but by the end of the summer, I feel much better, almost no pains at all. I am 50. This year - my 6th winter sowing was almost a non-starter. I just didn't feel motivated - kind of depressed actually - aches and pains. But, somehow I forced myself to do around 30 containers (previous years it was in the 100's) - maybe I'll do a few more while the nights are still frosty up here. But let me tell you, when I saw my first sprout 2 weeks ago, I got that same old thrill - it's still there :)

There are several places that I know of where you can buy the grains. You usually have to have them order it for you, as they don't always have it in-stock. The first is Westwood Feed in Westwood. It is probably a 20 to 30 minute drive for you, but you can order once and fill your car with everything you need for the year. I was at another once, and after searching on Google a bit, I think it is Mikes Feed Farm in Riverdale. I think that would be closer to you. I find that the NJ feed stores don't quite compete on price with the feed stores in the more rural parts of the country, especially on corn gluten meal. Westwood Feed only stocks the commercial brand corn gluten meal, and they charge a bundle for it, yet their soy bean meal is moderately priced. Having experimented with organics a bit over the past year and watching others in my neighborhood, I have concluded that the fastest way (though not the most ORGANIC way) to get there is to cheat the first year and use a synthetic preemergent in the spring. Then you can breath a bit without all of the weeds and plan your attack for the fall. I didn't do that this year, and I paid the price. I am getting nice results from my overseeding, but I think the whole summer and overseeding process would have been easier had I used a preemergent in the spring. Going forward, I am going to use a preemergent as long as I still have bare spots in my lawn and any sign of disease (I moved in last September and have since found out that historically my lawn dies out in spots late every summer despite getting adequate water - I think it is some type of fungus). All of my other feedings are organic. Once the lawn comes in thick and the soil is amended properly, I will stop using the preemergent.

And today is my first visit here after looking up adrenaline I sure understand better now That's what I have going on MY NATURE'S PACE MAKER.working. Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Now I think i know what as going on for long time hidden from doc view. Electric shock adrenaline style

I want to come buy flowers from you! What a fun and potentially very satisfying (from a creative and making people happy point of view) business you have started. I didn't have any trouble figuring out why you wanted us to pretend to be a bride or a MOB. ;~) It's a time in a life when someone might be looking for things from flowers and their arrangement that they won't be looking for ever again; and it's a time when choosing the right thing and the right person to do it has a lot of stress and emotion attached to it....so you understandably want a first impression and "curb appeal" that shows you can pull things together in an appealing way. Now I personally love your periwinkle door and would enjoy visiting a cottage or farmhouse with all the doors a different color; but I leaned toward the darker soft rich green from your cushions for the doors, and using the coral pink as accent colors in a few different spots because I think that would present a sort of "together, decorated, color-coordinated" first impression that would look professional from a design standpoint but still fun and relaxed and fresh. If that makes sense! LOL Oh, btw, I don't "really" farm but I'm a definite wannabe...live in the country and mess about with farmy thigs and animals. I understand your concern about wind and a bucket on the front door....not long ago my wooden rocking chairs on the porch blew right over and a metal light fixture attached to the house actually ended up crooked from the wind! But when les suggested a flat-backed bucket or other container for the door to put rotating and/or seasonal arrangements in, I could just SEE it...such a charming idea. I'd have to look around, but I think I've seen some kind of bracket or even metal wire loop that is firmly attached to the door, that the container lifts in and out of....that would be secure enough to not move around and scratch your door? Anyway, that just seemed like a really neat idea, but you could make the same impression with porch pots where you do pretty combinations of flowers in season and then seasonal things in the fall and winter. I feel sure it will be charming because you've already headed down that road by yourself!

Do not say the "F" word! lol! You can keep the FALL. Ill settle for cooling off to the upper 60s and mid 80s cuz thats what we got here.

'Fall' means different things to different people. To the New Englander, it's cool, crisp days, chilly nights and brilliant foliage. To the South Floridian, it's still hurricane season. To the Californian, it's both fire season before the Winter rains--and "earthquake season" according to popular belief. To me, it means crystal clear days, "Indian Summer" and the most perfect weather of the year.

But this year, I hope 'Fall' brings less than typically idyllic weather.--WE NEED RAIN! Currently in drought watch but if normally rainy August brings little/no rain, it will turn to drought warnings soon enough as September and October are normally quite dry.--But who's to say what passes for normal in weather these days.

Fall, how I loathe it. Some people love fall and I just cant see how. I hate the idea of getting colder and colder and the days drastically shortening. The weather is sometimes nice, but its not as reliable as spring weather. And some people love the leaf color but all it is to me is a sign that the trees will be bare in no time. the best fall for me would be one that stays mild as long as possible. I want the leaves to stay on the trees as long as possible and the first frost to occur as late as possible. I really dont want fall to come, but hopefully it brings some rain (a tropical storm would bring that rain and also some tropical humidity and warmth so in a way, a tropical storm (if its not strong) would be a good thing for the fall. I can already tell fall is on its way since nights are now starting to go in the 60s (still 70s to though!) and the sun just isnt as strong.
Fall to me is very cool mornings and mild sunny afternoons.

I love the fall - it means that the NFL is in full swing!

Also, to tell you the truth - by the time October comes, I have had enough of gardening and I look forward to the horticultural vacation when I no longer have to worry about giving my plants water, fertilizer and maximum sun. I just leave them be, and by November many of them go to sleep in the garage.

The time of year I hate the most is March and April - the plants want to wake up but it's just not warm enough yet outside.

Fall could be my favourite season if it were not followed by winter. Football, Halloween (mu favourite holiday), and sweatshir weather. I love September and October but I hate Nov-Mar. For the moment I ove the break. It was partly sunny and 79 today on the river. The water was plenty warm to swim in but I wasn't sweathing my butt of while paddling. It was nice waking up and it being 63 in the house. We are by no means over with summer as it is supposed to be 90 by Monday and only falling into the low 70s at m=night all next week0.
