We can probably tell you the genus, possibly the species or hybrid, with a good photo. The best angle is not straight above or directly at the side, but halfway in between. Feel along the edges of the leaves. Do you feel spines? If not, it is probably a Guzmania or Vriesea or possibly a Tillandsia. Send the photo and tell us about the spines - I'll give it my best shot!

Ok, i am back the original poster. i am still confused with what i have. this is a condo so i had nothing to do with the planting but i would like to know to decide how to prune. i took another photo today and all the ones i showed you before are now with yellow leaves but i have a few next to it with the white brush blooms. i have had two different opinions on here so i am still wondering. i am in zone 4, and itea virginia seems to be for a warmer zone and clethra might be what the other bush is. still want to know what to do about pruning. if anyone can help thank you.

It looks like a drain clean-out, not a valve. Wait till it stops leaking, then open it up (unscrew it) and run a snake down to the bigger pipe. It appears to be partly clogged. Teflon the mail threads and put cap back on after you flush the clog away. Good luck.
