Curling Leaves on Eggplant?

Does anyone know what may be causing these curling leaves on my eggplant? What can be done?

We've had a ton of rain in the last week and I noticed the leaves curling yesterday. I opened them up and looked inside the leaf, but didn't see any bugs there or on the underside. Any ideas on what's going on here?

The tears in the lower leaves, that was caused when transplanting. Those are not pest-related.

Any weedkiller of any kind used anywhere in the vicinity or even next door?

Jean- Not that I am aware of. Next door neighbors don't get their lawn treated or anything like that. There are plenty of weeds in the area growing "like weeds." :)

The leaves don't have burn spots on them, like you'd see with Roundup or some other chemical. They just are curling in all of a sudden.

I'm in dry, hot central Alabama (Opelika) and haven't had that problem (although I think my eggplant has beetles). I do keep them very well watered, though. I did, though, start mine very close to the frost date. Maybe they're more developed? I did have one early-season tomato plant that did the same thing.

This the tree that produce about nine air layered. My question on this one is I reported it few days ago cut some of the roots. And now it looks like dying or maybe it just stress out from all the things I did to it. The tree is at least 10 years old.

My tomato plants were harden off in the sun and were about 6 inches tall when I planted them in the ground. They were fine and were watered very well but after a few days we received a couple of days of rain. The main stem is getting larger but the plants are curling up as if the were rolling into a ball. Jennifer —-(Spraying with Neem Oil and or and other mixtures to eradicate the insects organically could still harm those beneficial insects. Some people will just let those pest stay on the tree because they dont want to harm them. Its a difficlt choice to make for some and you need to understand that some bad infestations that might get out of hand and could cause your trees to become weak and allow other diseses to slowly kill your tree. i always try and let Mother Nature work on the right balance of the pest verses the beneficial insets to keep everything in check. But sometimes i will have to step in and use more than organic to combact the problem. its up to you to decide what is best for your tree. Laura Even those that eat leaves ___ Katydids 🌺

Roundup doesn't burn leaves unless overdosed.

But several weed killers curl leaves, among them certain weed-and-feed combos for lawns, also products containing 2,4-D.

Since the newer leaves seem to be affected and the plant is growing in a pot, I suspect a nutrient deficiency. My guess is a calcium deficiency, since plants need a lot of calcium and it moves very slowly in the plant.

I would sprinkle a small amount of gypsum and/or lawn lime (calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate) on the surface of the medium. Be very careful not to overdo the lawn lime, because it is alkaline. But the lawn lime has the advantage of also supplying magnesium. If there is plenty of calcium in the soil, the problem will gradually correct itself. The process is gradual because calcium moves so slowly in the plant.

If you are in a hurry to correct the problem, you could use a foliar spray of dilute calcium nitrate. I include calcium nitrate in my feedings of soluble nutrients as a preventive measure. A pound of calcium nitrate lasts me a long time, because I dilute it to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. You could water your pot with some diluted calcium nitrate instead of applying gypsum or lawn lime.

Thanks for the tip. I will try one of your suggestions and hope for the best. My other eggplants are in the ground and even though they have a bit of nibbles off the leaves, they aren't doing this, so a nutrient difficiency makes a lot of sense.

Plants, whether in the ground AND/OR in containers/pots/planters can all be affected by weed killers.

Spray turbulence floats on very light breezes.
And certain granular forms volatilize when temps are high.

If it were a calcium deficiency, the newest leaves would be dead.
