Best site for Hot Pepper seed online?

Hello everyone!

I'm new here and absolutely love this site. Well actually, I've been reading this forum for a while now but this is my first time posting. :)

Last year my gf and I successfully grew a couple of jalapeno plants from seed and this year we want to turn up the heat. We're looking into growing habaneros and some bhut jolokia. I'm looking for a reliable place online to buy the seed for these plants or maybe some seedlings.. BUT I don't want to buy 12+ plants. There have been mixed reviews on this site about where and how to obtain this seed and I was wondering where your favorite place online is buy these items? Any help would be great!! Good luck and Good harvest.

A lot of cross pollination questions on the site right now. Most years, I grow a pepper patch of mixed sweet & hot peppers - with the two often directly adjacent - and have not observed any heat in the sweet peppers. I don't entirely discount the possibility that crossed seeds might possess some heat... but sweet peppers are not generally eaten without cleaning them. If there were such heat, I would expect to feel it or smell it during cleaning, which has not been the case.

I am pretty sure the OP is looking for Tall Fescue as he has another thread on the site. I bought seed from the Hogan Company, they have a very good list of cultivars for TF, most of them fairly new. FM Brown and Sons sells newer ones as well, but I think they deal only in 50 lb. bags. Pawnee Buttes seeds is good. In a way you should choose what culitvars you want and then find them online. Use the NTEP trials to find what TF performs best in your area. (I am in CT and I used Faith, Cochise IV, and Firecracker LS).

I harvested seed from one of those ornamental purple leaved peppers one year and also noticed my eyes and nose burning from the dust. Once I was scraping seeds out of hot peppers before they went into a sauce. The peppers were small, it was easier to use my fingernail. Well, that pepper juice got underneath my nail - that really burned. At some point I must have rubbed the corner of my eye, as well which also burned pretty good...I'm pretty careful with hot peppers now.

Using a sterile, well moistened seed starting mix, start pepper seeds indoors, 8- 10 weeks before the last frost date. As soon as seedlings emerge, move to a bright, warm location and keep consistently moist. Select a site with well-draining, fertile soil and at least 8-10 hours of sun. Harden-off the plants one to two weeks before planting. When temperatures are warm enough, move the plants into the garden. Peppers should not be transplanted to the garden until the nighttime temperatures are consistently above 55°F. Set transplants 12-18 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches wide. Pepper plants need regular moisture so never let the soil dry out completely, mulch around the plants (compost works great for this) and fertilize as needed Crop should be harvested after they are fully developed and should be harvested during cool and dry periods of the day

Hey Randy,

Everyone will have their personal favorites but I have had great success from Peppermania and I also love Johnny's Seeds. Customer service from both is top notch.

Reimer's has a well-established history of unbelievably, insultingly poor customer service, AND they sell seeds that are way, way beyond fresh, to the point of zero percent germinization. Don't take my word for it. There are many others who would say the same. I suggest you check out Dave's Garden website for more instances of customers' reaction to Reimer's. Gardeners and/or market gardeners should avoid Reimers, they're nothing but crooks. Reimer's sleaze harms all of the honorable suppliers who market via the web. Suggest you try: FedcoSeeds.com; Johnnyseeds,com, Harrisseeds.com, Stokeseeds.com, Shumway, Cooks, Pinetree, Dixondale Farms (for onion plants) and many others. I have 45 years vegetable gardening experience, and have been a commercial market gardener since 1991. There are lots of good online seed sources. Reimer's is definitely not one of them!
