I'm using Internet Explorer. Actually, I'm also occasionally having issues with the scroll bar not appearing on some pages here on the Building forum. Funny thing is, is only happens occasionally and only on SOME threads. Usually if I close the affected thread and then reopen it, it'll be fine. Sometimes I have to close and reopen it a couple of times before I get a scrollbar. But the same thing happened once when I was trying to post a response and had already hit "preview message." I couldn't scroll down to the "Submit Message" bar and, since I had taken quite some time composing my message, I didn't want to close the tab and lose all my work. I found that if I did a right-click on the page (like I was trying to copy a portion of it) and then dragged my cursor down, the page moved so that I could get to the Submit Message bar. I personally suspect the problem has something to do with some of the ads. I've noticed that ads always seem to load before the scroll bar does. So if GW has accepted an advertisement that doesn't load properly, the page will get "hung up" and the scroll bar won't ever appear. Since ads appear randomly on pages, you never know when you're gonna run into the problem.

Although I've been on a number of decorating forums over the last 7 years or so, I've really enjoyed this one. While I can get a little caught up in the problems of new neighbors, housebreaking a dog, or other more conversational posts, My main enjoyment is in seeing how other people work out their decorating issues, what shade of paint works best with oak cabinets, how to choose between granite and tile, and what the craigslist dresser looks like when it gets into YOUR house and gets properly accessorized. I love that. I love the average house renovated and made more perfect for it's owner. I like being able to make a suggestion that helps someone else work out a problem. It's very fulfilling to suggest a paint shade and have that shade put on someone's wall, and seeing the end result--a beautiful room. It's a kick to see my own Kohler Vinnata faucet (that I myself found through the Kitchen's forum) in other settings, perhaps with Emerald Pearl granite and white cabinets, or maybe with Venetian Gold granite and dark cherry cabinets. I love seeing how someone covered their club chairs with cheap matelasse coverlets and they look amazing. I love seeing a porch with drapes made of painter's dropcloths. It's nice to have ideas for more expensive homes with custom details, as well as more modest homes and budgets that need clever thinking to make things beautiful. I love the ideas and the people. I like being able to ask a question about whether to keep the Jacobean dining set I found on Ebay or sell it and get something else. My friends are predjudiced and think all my stuff looks cute. Or........they cannot believe I did red in my entry and say so. You guys are different. Some of you don't care for my style, but are really too kind to say so. Some of you are way too complimentary but it still makes me feel good even when I know you are gushing. And as many have commented before me, it's a real comfortable feeling to be able to worry about moldings or paint shades or furniture fabrics, with a group of people who don't think it's making too much ado about nothing. If you look on the index, where the list of topics is, on the right, just above, and underneath the post a new message area, and right under the GardenWeb has joined Houzz box), you'll see the mode selector. There's a sorting style dropdown menu that let's you choose to sort by latest activity (like on GW), Featured, Popular, and Unanswered. I don't know who or how they determine Featured and Popular, but I bet there's something in there that's making all these old threads pop up! Farther to the right are the three boxes. The leftmost is for the basic index of thread topics, signified by many lines (3 lines). Middle box has two blobs because when you choose that, the entries are thicker. That's the one I was talking about. In the two bars, middle box, "preview" mode, you see the first two lines of the last post on the thread, as well as the last poster's screen name and avatar, and how old the last post is. Plus, the preview of the first picture posted in the OP post. The one solid box, on the far right, gives you the first two lines of the OP post, indented with its picture preview to the left) and the last two replies to it, but with all the threads strung in a row. This is a great way to see if there's anything new in a slow moving forum. It used to show the full threads, I think, but our threads are too long for that. :)
