Vine is dying

Hi,

This is cobaea scandens in bad shape right now. I sowed the seeds in october and it grew to about 3 feet. As our summers are very very hot (40-45C continuous), this vine gets only 3 hours direct sun in morning.

1-All leaves are getting brown crispy edges. no wilting what so ever.
2- Vine is getting bald from the bottom and then going up. The only stem from the trunk is not green but brown.

I could not find any pest. Can some one tell me how i can save this vine? There is new growth on it but not enough.

couldn't get the link to work, please tell me more about cobea scandens, have you grown it before successfully? Could it be a nutrient problem w/ soil?

I tried it first time last year and same problem occured. This year i tried different seed vendor but same problem. Does this vine not tolerate the high heat? I do not think it is problem of nutrient as other plants in same soil bed a are growing fine. Please find attached more pictures of leaves.

my incarnata died last year during the summer i never found out what it was, but it must have been a virus or something like that. the leaves wilted just like this one. it started in one spot, and went to the whole plant. i had another one about 20ft away that never had a problem, actually, that one took off and got huge. if it did get cold enough , and was wet for an extended period, it could be root-rot ? that will make it look like it is not getting enough water, but thats just because it has no roots to absorb it.

When you say a cutting was it rooted? Is it possible that it's too wet? It likes moisture but still needs a well draining soil. I don't know if snail eggs are a problem but adult snails and slugs are. Do you think there's any fungus gnats in the soil? This vine is pretty new to me also so I don't have much experience with it. My Jade vine wasn't happy when I had to bring it inside in Sept. It died back quite a bit. We had a new GH built that's kept very warm and it is recovering nicely in there. I keep my soil evenly moist and it needs very high humidity and warm temps. Mine gets bright indirect light. When parts of the vine grew out into direct sunlight they'd burn. I might just keep it in the GH year round because it's difficult to keep it out of the sun. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info and you can save your plant. If not they are on sale at Zone 9 Tropicals. That's where I got mine and it was a big healthy plant. Karyn

Help! I was cleaning out some of the dead wood from my lush and thriving Cup and Saucer vine and I think I cut too many of the main branches and the whole thing is now dying! I am so sad and don't know if it will come back. Any recommendations or suggestions? The "middle" section was the first part to start dying.

Is it in the pea or bean family? Did you use a foliar feed? I'm a beginner gardener but it looks like a chemical burn or sunburn to me, or maybe because it is dying from the bottom up a root problem, sorry i don't know more. I love plants but it is so frustrating when they get sick and you don't know why!

If you check out the Tropicos database specimen data for this plant you'll see that most come from 1500 m or higher. This alone suggests that it probably prefers cooler temperatures. So I think your suspicions are probably right.

Perhaps the quickest way to find out would be to post in the Arizona forum (if this is allowed) and see if anyone in the low desert has had success with this species. Surely someone has tried.

Looks like it's drying out.

Is it in the ground or a container?
How are you watering? how much? and how often?

@TxCarol, it is not in pea family. I did not use any foliar feed

@mark4321, i did put this thread in arizona forum but no response

@jean001a, it is in ground. I am watering it daily in early morning about 3 litres. The soil does not get dry for few days after watering. I am afraid that over watering might make the roots rot.
