There are not too many repellents that will deter woodchucks. And for vegetables, nothing. I feel your pain, every year I battle woodchucks, finally we put a 6 ft chain link fence around our veggie garden. For my flower beds, I use a repellent that I think is called Woochuck Stop, its in a red bottle, HD sells it and other places I'm sure. Thats the only one that worked for me, but I wouldn't use it on food items. Despite my 6 ft fence, I was finding my kale and cucumber plants eaten, couldn't figure it out. Then, I went out there early in the morning and found a tiny baby bunny in the garden, once he spotted me, he was able to squeeze right through the fencing and ran off. So, tonights project is to install chicken wire along the perimeter of the chain link fencing. Hopefully that will keep the little critter out, cute though he may be, the veggies are off limits. I'd recommend a fence or a dog.

It's both, acts to provide some moisture and fertilizer retention, and also a bit more air space. All by itself bark does not provide enough of anything to really support plant life (except for possibly orchids), but once it is mixed with peat moss - bark fines help extend the âÂÂlifeâ of the potting mix by being relatively slow to break down. It's helpful in container mediums for perennials, woody plants - I don't see benefit to adding it to your short use seed starting combination - I do like a container medium that is bark based for things like hydrangeas if growing those long term in pots. I have sweet box in containers at my entryway in bark based medium, it supports those well but they are supplemented with a (half strength) liquid fertilizer occasionally.

Is it a hyper-tufa pot? I've tried to build several but the formula was wrong and they kept falling apart. I made a couple using less peat and perlite and more cement and they've held up but are much heavier (actually too heavy) but sort of cool looking in a sort of handmade lopsided sort of way. I added colorant, either dry pigment or latex paint to the mix so it's an earth brown color. Good luck with your future pot making!

Hi I grow mine outdoors as yard plants but did you realize there are different cultivars by size as well color?? Obviously for houseplants you'd want to stick to the dwarfs. I suspect they would all require full sun, Google the family "Strelitzia" not only several species but different cultivars as well as hybrids. They commercially produce these for the florist trade so must be a way?? gary
