I know that this is very old, but that's not a Foxtail palm, nor a Queen palm. That's actually a Florida Royal palm. Both are very beautiful trees, however, the Foxtail palm has fronds that resembles the tail of a fox. Just out of curiosity, did the palm survive? i live in Houston, Tx, which is zone 9a like Jacksonville, and my Foxtail died during the arctic blast back in 2014. However, my Royal is still alive and recovering. Here's a pic of my Foxtail before it froze. I replaced it with a Queen, but I miss my Foxtail very deeply. I can't bare planting another one and having it die on me in a few years, whenever an unusual arctic blast occurs.

Iowa,the castors are the plants with the huge green leaves,I like growing them for their beautifull tropical looking leaves.I live in Jefferson Co.far s.e. corner of state. Mike,I will build a small "green house" its mostly just a rain cover to keep them dry during the winter.I will have a small electric space heater that will be on when temps fall into the single digits or less,inside the cover it will warm up at least 40F over outside temps on sunny days. The washys on the side of the house will be wrapped up with burlap,house insulation and plastic and will be heated when temps are below freezing with ropelights,two palms on either side of the cactus bed will have umbrella g/h's over them and heated with small heat bulbs only when 0F or less,all the rest will be covered with either leaf cages that are wrapped in plastic or styrofoam covers packed with leaves,a few of the trackys will only be covered with styrofoam covers when worst cold hits,these I will uncover during any temps over 40F during day as a experiment to test their cold hardiness.The castors and sugar cane are goners when freeze hits,the bananas are coming inside- Mike,I thought I saw a Y.aloifolia in your album that you planted next to a telephone pole?what ever happened to it?did you protect it during winter? My cover will be similar to how you cover your big trachy,just lower and extending back to the front porch.

Still looks like green cane in both roses. I'm thinking they might come back - but maybe not for weeks and weeks. I don't know - I think I would replace them if there's roses you have waiting to plant. My thinking is that they might not be okay for the upcoming winter. I would replace, but then I can be brutal.
