I'm about to pronounced it dead

I'm pretty sad about my Taboo aka Barkarole.

I really really did loved these 2 roses to pieces.

Gone Tomorrow

And also all 3 of my Dainty Bess(one of them was sending out leaves, but a few weeks later they all drooped over and wilted.

I am going to try growing them again.

Maybe in pots this time, so I can take them in comes winter.

oh No! Niecey I'm so sorry. Is there really no hope? I've heard that sometimes they might look dead but might come back ... I have no experience growing in winter conditions so have no idea. I'm sorry - it's hard to lose a rose that you are fond of.

Awww, Niecey that's too bad. I'm sure you will feel better about these once you get some new ones and they start growing.

Floridarose: You asked why I removed 'Crepuscule' and its supporting pergola . . . When, almost 18 yrs ago, we selected a site to build this home, the agent asserted that the towering pines on one side of the property were "mature". I assumed that meant they would grow no taller. What a naÃÂ¯ve assumption THAT proved to be. We planted other trees, as did a neighbor. Portions of the property that once were very sunny gradually became shaded during much of the day -- ie, increasingly inhospitable to the roses that once grew so happily in those areas. So there you have it . . . 'Crepuscule' wasn't the only casualty, but it certainly was the most prominent one. Come spring, the side garden where the pergola stood will be planted with Southern Indica azaleas ('George L Taber' and/or 'Mrs GG Gerbing'), and probably a few other shade-tolerant plants. Nearby, beds behind a stone retaining wall will be home to a mass planting of Camellia sasanqua 'Marge Miller', the first-ever trailing camellia discovered in Australia that, at long last, is now available to American gardeners. Several years ago, a group of local water colorists came here on a spring weekend to paint 'Crepuscule' doing her riotous thing on her pergola. I hounded one of those artists mercilessly until he finally caved-in and sold his painting to me. Now that my 'Crepuscule' exists only as a fond memory, and as the subject of that wonderful water color painting, I'm more glad than ever that I was such a persistent nudge. PS: LOL -- You're right, Carol. Sure didn't anticipate such a lively exchange among rose folk regarding social mores and taboos vis-ÃÂ -vis incest.

Applewood Annie, bless your heart for remembering me. I'm still around, though since I lost my DH last summer my time for checking in on GW has not been the same. Used to be that I popped in every single day - sometimes more than once, but I've no time for that any more, and not so much time for my gardens either I'm sad to say. I've tried to make a promise to myself to photograph the gardens more this year, even if only to help me some day remember the beauty I created around a home I no longer can view as being the place I'll stay the rest of my life, sigh. Sorry to hear about your health problems. What a terrible time you have had! I hope you have some beautiful roses anyway this year - and better days ahead. It's fun to see so many people pop in, but sad when I see the names of some very wonderful people I met here over the last 12 years and now so many of them are lost to us all. That's the nature of this way of relating to people. We only see a small window on someone's life and they can close it and turn their backs at any time, leaving us in the dark as to what happened. That's the trouble; never having the end of the stories...

I recently finished a kitchen budget update, I love my new kitchen, enjoy drinking a cup of coffee, cooking for the two of us or cooking a large meal. DH loves when we have breakfast or just sitt in the back, he loves the pool and privacy too. I cherish the memories of my daughter's growing up in our old house, unfrotunatly I never liked that house. For 20 yrs I knew DH wanted a summer house, and for 20 yrs he knew I wanted a new winter house, it's so nice that this house made both our "wants" come true. When anyone tells us how our small ranch style house is perfect for 2 people, we look at each other, since this house is larger than the house we raised our children in. I always wanted a formal livingroom, am so glad to have a separate den. I remember when I had to ask my daughter's if I could sneak in and use the bathroom, it's nice to have 2, and one of them is in my bedroom!!! another dream come true. I love everything about my new house. Yes, I enjoy making things the way I want, and hope to update the mud/laundry room next year, but if I don't that will be ok too....(Please don't tell DH I said that).

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Doggie"!!He wasn't around long I think Spike banned him over something...I just remember when his wife came in and posted that he had passed away suddenly...He wrote the most incredible poem...I'll share it with ya... "Doctor Time" When we lose a loved one and we're in despair Doctor Time is already there He's treating us all, we're unaware When our loved one is gone and on their way Doctor Time helps us move on day to day He treats the anger, grief and sorrow with a medicine he calls "Tomorrow" As the days, weeks and months go by we just look back and wonder why Such a beautiful person had to die But deep inside we feel okay We have lived to see another day He's calmed the anger, grief and sorrow, we took the medicine he calls "Tomorrow" Doctor Time has one thing to say Time heals all wounds day by day I remember he posted this poem to someone's post who had lost a loved one and he died shortly thereafter...

You're more experienced at this than I am but have you tried alfalfa meal? Especially that Taboo's not brown yet. I planted a bareroot($4 body bag) this spring that had some growth on it, two days later it looked like your Dainty Bess. I just kept watering it and now it has two blooms. You just never know...

gee,they look like one of my Fragrant Cloud bushes.pretty one day with a dozen blooms on it and wilted bad the next day and 3 days later its dead.This is the 5th rose bush to bite the dust in this bed since early fall.

Still looks like green cane in both roses. I'm thinking they might come back - but maybe not for weeks and weeks. I don't know - I think I would replace them if there's roses you have waiting to plant. My thinking is that they might not be okay for the upcoming winter. I would replace, but then I can be brutal.

Yes there is green canes on Taboo and then when you look around to the other side of the cane its also very black.
Dainty Bess- there is just no hope for her. She is a goner.

Oh what a bummer Niecey!! How did that happen? It looks like the sunburn death we get here in the summertime when the temps reach over 100Â°. If there is any green left there, try piling some bark mulch up over the base of the plants, and maybe they will come back! Worth trying anyway.
