At the end of the year the grafts will either be successful, or the kumquats will take off on their own roots, or the trees will face winter UNPROTECTED OUTSIDE. Jim, so you think my biggest little washy has a fat trunk then, I'm quite pleased about that actually! Looks like I'm doing something right then. I checked that biggest leaf and it is divided a lot more than I originlly thought. It's my second go with the Adeniums, I can get them to germinate easily, but the last lot died off one by one, this years batch are doing better. Those SM's are a pain in the butt, they're in 3 inch pots and are themselves only 5 inches high, the pic makes them look bigger!!! Believe me, they're NOT. NPG, yes they are plumerias, have one 3yr old from a cutting, 4 1yr olds from seed and another 12 sprouting as I write. No I don't have any other Caudiciforms, as far as I know. Yes also to the Hoya question, its H.C. 'Krimson Queen' also from a cutting, has 5 more peduncles forming. It was given to me in '05, same as the plumie cutting. Yes again re the mango, mine is 'Kent' but I'm afraid its ailing somewhat. Suddenly started to have white mouldy patches on leaves, If I wipe it off it makes a translucent patch which then turns into a brown spreading mark and whole darned leaf falls off. Mildew?? Have treated it but its looking grim. Just after its started to push out lots of branches and new leaves too. Chad, if I'd have known how slow these SM things were I would never have bought the seeds in the first place, I will be in my box before it even resembles a palm tree at this rate....give me WR's any time. Sorry Brad. LOL! I grew up in Northern VA 20 minutes south of DC. I'm a born and raised Redskins fan. I can't help it. They really suck right now! Not that I'm not a Steelers fan. In fact if I had to choose an AFC team, they would be it. Back to the palm. I wish I had taken better time lapse (in the same place) shots. I'll have to do that the next time I start some seeds. About the growth rate. I used miracle gro, Carl Pool Palm fert and a magic fertilizer called MILORGANITE. I also think it helped in my area being in the black pot vs being planted in the ground. I think the soil gets a lot warmer in the pot than in the ground. Plus it was sitting on the concrete the majority of the summer. The two I had growing in the ground didn't grow nearly as fast. I dug them both up. One I gave to a friend and the other I have inside. It hasn't grown at all because I think its suffering from shock. Oh well at least I still have the big one. Thank you. Fedtschenkoana is spotless. None of its hybrids are. Hugonis hybrids vary from moderate to severely susceptible. Lynnie, Indian Love Call, Porcelain Rose, L56-1, Blue for You, First Impression seedlings (I lost FI in the move), Eyes for You, Art Nouveau, Gina's Rose, Anne Belovich, the four 0-47-19 X Tom Thumb ramblers, a number of seedlings between the above listed are completely without any spots on any leaves. Banksiae and Fortuniana are heavily spotted. 1-72-1Hugonis and 1-72-1Hugonis flore plena are lightly spotted as is ALmD, though the latter appears to be more locatoin dependent. The three are budded on VI Fortuniana and the one closeset to the hottest fence appears to be suffering the worst. The other two are spotless. All four Minutifolia variations are spot free. Xanthina, Primula, Arkansana Peppermint, Basye's Amphidiploid 86-1 and even Basye's Legacy are spotted. Secret Garden is nearly leafless from the spotting. Dr. E.M. Mills is spotless. Very few cases appear location dependent and some of the spotless plants have been badly crowded by plants which are completely leafless from the infection. All of the small, immature, newer Teas are defoliated with much die-back. Rosy Purple is totally clean, while many other hybrid multifloras are heavily spotted. Culling the worst offenders would definitely positively impact water useage!
