emperor palm transplanting.

Hi there, i have a good sized emperor palm, the trunk is about 2 feet long. i got it from a friend about a year ago, she grew them all in her backyard, and offered one to me if i came and dug it up. well i put it in a plastic pot back then, now i want to put it into a terra cotta pot and some better soil. so when i took it out of the plastic pot i noticed what looked like old roots that had rotted from its previous move. now it has all nice and white healthy roots, problem is, when i moved it into the new pot some of the roots broke off. i sprayed it with daconil because i didnt want them to start rotting. how long should i wait to plant him back up? how long till the broken roots heal? thanks!
