Hi David. Thanks for complementing the quality of the pics. My wife will love you. They were taken with her Valentine's Day gift. A Canon Power Shot S5IS. It better take good pictures. But for some reason they dont turn out as good as they really are before you post them.

About the Triangle. Its actually a Spindle Palm (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii) but I can kind of see what you mean. It does better than I expected it would do. Its working on its second frond since I brought it indoors (permanently) in Oct.

I love the spindle palm, you can toss that other plant, it does not do the spindle any good being there...lol. In fact, I have heard that spindles really dont like other less valuable palms in growing distance...

Yeah you know you love it orchid. I wonder if the tender palms do think the hardy palms are ugly? Its like someone from L.A. meeting someone from West VA. No offense West VA.

Yes I see now its a spindle. Canon is a nice camera. I own a 8 mp canon rebel and I think canon has the best lenses.

We wanted the rebel, but couldn't quite afford to drop $700 bucks on it. We have two boys and soon a girl. Kids before camera I guess but palm trees before kids. Right?

Thank god my kids are 13 and 15, once I get the car of the oldest one, I can start really getting the plants. Those first few years are a doozy.

Funny you should mention that. Look what my 2 1/2 yr old just did with the soil from the new Windmill!

That should be fun to clean out of the carpet LOL. Beautiful windmill. I guess it depends on the individual. The windmill is far more valuable to me than the spindle, because its something I can plant outside here. Although, I did see a nice sized spindle at Lowe's last fall for $20, seemed like a really good deal, but because of the time of year, I didn't buy it because I have too much to overwinter already. Luckily though, I think my Chinese Fan died in the garage, so now I have an opening LOL.

Lovely palms and pics there Josh. Especially like the little Calebiensis sp. too. Watch out as he's sure to be a real charmer given another 10+ years. Give him, his siblings and the palms lots of TLC and they will flourish and reward you several fold in the years to come...I know, been there, done that and 'got the tee-shirts', x3, as we say here in the UK.

Didnt you know, kids love to play in the dirt. I guess thats the reason I never grew up. Boy that stuff will be all over the house soon, once they get a taste of it, next your will find it in there bed, pockets, clothes etc...

I feel your...aggravation. My 3 yr. old has forced me to isolate most of my tender plants to a "safe" area of the house. Unfortunately, the only light there comes from a north facing window. And wouldn't you know, his room receives the best light Summer or Winter. I've vacuumed up enough soil to start a new bed outside. He also ruined some starter pots with seeds from the following tree:

josh_palm_crazy I feel for you I remember when I had carpet and our soil is simular to that type of soil and it was hard on carpets. In fact they sell soil from here around USA calling it "top soil" or "Potting soil".I use a mix of sand, peat, perilite, and sometimes pine bark mix so the soil is light and well drained.

Now I would never?(almost never) put a palms needs ahead of a "humans" but......trishmick, it sounds like the "safest" and of course "healthest" room in the house for your beloved three year old would be the north? facing room I am certainly not an expert on childrin, (who is?)- but I feel my knowledge of palms makes up for this, I,m pretty sure they don,t require sun?So how about a simple swap,kid for palms...um..I mean swap their rooms,If its already decorated for children(kids room) may I suggest simply planting palm seeds,does this help?

You should see my plant room, the carpet is so trashed. Actually, it's not totally the plants' fault, it was an art studio first, and that was very messy too.

If I could afford it, I'd put in a big piece of sheet vinyl flooring or laminate in there instead. But college for the teenager before plants (well, except for the orchids that keep following me home). Anyway, the room is so full of plants, who can see the floor?!

Looks like to me you need a Roomba Irobot to get that mess all cleaned up. LOL that will be a job to get that off your floor. I do have a roomba and they do keep floor around the palms pretty well cleaned. nice looking palms.

My carped is ruined! There are 32 pots (more every week), and each one of them has fallen over at least once lol!
