About me: I own an interior plant services and sales business near Baltimore. I also work part-time at a wholesale/retail greenhouse.
I’ve been gardening since I was about 6, when I bought my first grow light with some Christmas money. I love all tropical plants - indoors or out!
Outside, I have a 300 gallon waterlily pond, a cottage garden, a shade mixed border, a tropical bed, a mediterranean style container/herb/veggie garden on my sunny deck, and an ever-changing parade of container gardens on my front porch. (The front porch is also my holding area for new plants waiting to go in the ground, so it often looks more like a nursery or warehouse than something artistic, especially in the spring!). I also have a boring, overgrown foundation planting at the front of the house that I am itching to overhaul.
Indoors, I have a 400 watt HID light and a T5 High Output fluorescent light, a fan and a humidifier in an upstairs bedroom that I call my "indoor greenhouse". Here I grow orchids (about 40 at last count). I also have houseplants scattered around the house.
Some days, I want to just sell the house, build an enormous conservatory, and live in that instead. Or maybe just move to Hawaii. But I haven’t convinced my family to buy into that idea yet! They think, rightfully so, that I am more than a little bit "plant obsessed"! (Is that a problem? And is there a cure?...)

Commented: Cutting roots and repotting Phal I also agree. Now is the perfect time. That's a pretty big pot unless it's a really big phal.

Commented: Perlite Substitute Maybe we could just pot the orchids directly into the can of worms... I'm a sphag girl myself, but I've rescued orchids from work in straight bark and they've done fine.
