Live to fight again-

First the dead-

All 6 of the Echinocereus tubiflora-next to it is adwarf Imbricata that has also bit it.

Ferocactus (fish hook barrel)

Candy barrel

Corypantha

This one has rotted but I think the baby is fine

Trithrinax and Mazari are roasted but the spears refuse to pull,a lot will depent on what happens this spring

S.louisiana pretty burnt but definitely ready for a come back! This one saw at least 0(F)

T.tesan is still alive but desperately needs some springtime weather to save it

Imbricata (hardy to zone 5? hmmm)showing serious rupture of cell walls and structure,most of this is dead and smells

Spears a little dry on this Waggie but other than that solid -

Besides a few burnt leaves this Naini Tal looks really great with a nice green spear!

Little hard to get to these 3 Needle,Sequoia,Butia(under trash can)and Washy.

I'm really confused as to why opuntia Imbricata and Barrel Cacti melted, while Agave Desmetiiana and Angustifolia have no visible damage. Were these two given extra protection? The latter two can be damaged even in zone 9 winters.

I'm surprised about the opuntia Imbricata. There is one near me that is 8 feet tall and recieves no protection.

It's in the far right corner.

my big cactus rotted but i wasn't sure if it was hardy

So Brazilian Button Bush is one of those kind, huh Jim? Well, some of us with oak/rock/deer need plants that that ... LOL! Ibheri, I really enjoyed attending the meetings at the local Rose Society here in San Antonio. I met some very good friends there. Most rose clubs, even though formed mainly for hybrid tea rose exhibition, have members who are primarily interested in shrub and antique roses. You might want to seek them out. Kristi, there is just something about having roses in a flower garden that adds a certain elegance and warmth, even if you don't like them, at first, that is. They 'grow' on you! Carrie, I'm surprised myself that I don't have more bugs. It seems that after a few years of mostly organic gardening the good bugs are keeping the baddies in check. I don't even have thrips right now, and plus they say that organic fertilizer builds healthier plants that are able to develop strong defenses again bug attacks. Not that I don't have a few. Squash bugs have already killed the squash plants. I should have used row covers. Next time I will.

oh wow, nannygoat! talk about getting caught red **handed**!! olivia's teeth are none the worse for wear and i, too, got a good laugh out of it. ya know, it's just "stuff". in the grand scheme of things, "stuff" isn't all that important to me. i mean, i like to have nice "stuff" and i do go to great pains to keep my "stuff" nice but still, it's just "stuff". it doesn't compare to the delight i feel when i see my 9 year old great dane having the time of her life! <3 socks, i had no idea there would be performing pigs in the circus. how funny! my pigs eat pellets specially made for pot bellied pigs. they love fruit of any kind (they will nibble on the rinds but when they get dried up, i toss them over the fence for the coons and possums to finish). they also love anything sweet, most especially marshmallows. lilly takes rimadyl for arthritis and all i have to do is poke the pill into a big marshmallow and it goes right down the hatch. try as i might, i can't get any of them to eat veggies except canned green beans!

What plants in what pics are you referring to?

Mine may not have been as hardy a form as I thought.
If it comes back,fine but it and the Opuntia both grow into trees*(as far as my little space is concerned)so nature did a little trimming I would have had to do any way.
I would have done less though(-;

Isn't that Agave Desmettiana Variegata you are growing in the third to the last picture?

And the Agave in the lower right side of the 9th picture looked like Agave Angustifolia to me, but it could also be Desmettiana. i can't really tell.

Either way, both these species recieve damage in the low 30s so I am surprised these look fine, while other hardier plants (imbricata and barrels) melted.

I guess you win some and you lose some. This winter was pretty fierce, but at least a majority of your plants look great. Spring is almost here and then everything thats alive will start to grow nice and quick for the summer!

Hard to tell from these hind of pics(angles and such with no scale),the variegated one in the 3rd to last is Y.gloriosa.
The variegated one in the 9th is a variegated Y.aloifolia.

In return I have callisa fragrans (makes a good fill around tropicals) turns puple in coller weather

Sure Statenisland-7a,
I actually just cut a bunch of the Imbricata down,I will need to sort through it tomorrow to see what cuttings I can come up with.
The large pad Opuntia(grows up right into a small tree in Texas) has several large sections in good shape with two levels.I brought them in yesterday and they look healthy.
