That's why every house should two pair of vice grip pliers !

Is it rusted? If so, what about naval jelly? Isn't it supposed to "dissolve" rust, or did I make that up?

Kroil Oil is the best penetrating oil I've ever used. If you have two hammers put one on one side and hit the other side. Many times that will break something loose. Then like mentioned above use two big vice grip pliers or a pipe wrench and you should be able to break it loose. Jay

Sharon, oh, I am so sorry I missed you. I was in and out all day. It was my birthday so I was out celebrating :) I was back for a little while in the afternoon. I cut four bouquets of those peonies and the oriental iris for mother's day bouquets for a friend of mine to take to women who work with him in prison ministry. He said they loved them! I was so proud!

Did you peek into the back yard? There are more, more and more peonies there! I love them.

Jay, Kroil Oil? hmmm. I have never heard of it. Can I find it in Walmart? Home Depot? Tractor Supply? I'm more than willing to try it, I really like this sprinkler.

Avid...vice grips? I actually do know what those are! I might have one pair. I'm betting I don't have enough muscle power though.

I miss having my dad close when it comes to stuff like this. The lawn mower mysteriously quit while I was mowing a couple of weeks ago. I called dad. After assuring him that I had indeed checked the gas level, he asked if I had check the oil lately. UHHHHH, oil? eeek. HMMMMM, maybe never in 10 years...;) although it had been serviced a few years ago (when it wouldn't start...)

I was quite fortunate. It was a low oil issue, but it didn't make the engine seize. Yay!

Sharon, didn't know you lived around here. I'm over in Putnam Heights pretty close to Belle Isle shopping center. I think Debra is pretty close, too.

Lisa, I use my pliers on stubborn hose connections, etc. I have no strength in my hands any more. My backyard faucet is about 2-3" from the ground (why, why, why???) which makes it super difficult to get any tool around the connections at all. I am always screaming Sailor epithets whenever I have to replace washers or whatever. Since it is surrounded on 3 sides by structures (on 2 sides by house, and 1 side by my attached shed), I don't worry much about it freezing or anything. So, I don't have to mess with it very often. TG!

Ya'll go out and throw away those pliers and vise grips - right now!

Go to the hardware store and get two pairs of Channel Locks and be done with it. There's a reason some of your Dads and husbands can do stuff - and some can't. The use of the proper tool for the job is a big part of that reason.

Keep in mind that the Channel Locks will grip one way and won't grip the other...you'll see.

Nope, nope, nope.....vice grip pliers are definitely better than channel lock pliers. You get those suckers locked down and there's nothing that stands a chance (:0 ! And you're probably going to have to go to a good parts store to get the Kroll (however you spell it) oil. DH gets it from the aviation mechanics.

I have to order Kroil. I also vote for channle locks, or use the vice grips with the arched opening, if the fittings are not really good you can deform them with vice grips and they will be even harder to get apart.

Lisa....Saturday was your birthday? That was Katie's birthday, too!!! Beautiful time of year for a birthday (as long as the weather cooperates!)...she was born in Edmond, in 1986, 6hrs before THE Edmond tornado...we watched it from the hospital window before they shuttled us out into the hall.
I think I have a pair of vice grips, too...I can come try to help you if you want. I'll be home today after about 2:00 (but gone again around 7:00) and then home all day tomorrow...just holler...I will e-mail you my phone number and we'll see what we can do, unless you get it unstuck before then.

This is a garden forum and I don't want to stray from that. I tried to list tools and methods I thought most likely Lisa might have access too. I'm a mechanical technician and an evaluator on use of proper tools ect. From my 30 plus years of experience I've seen more things ruined using Channel Locks than any other tool I can think of. A very good tool if used properly. Used the wrong way a very costly tool. Will distort pipe, fittings ect. They grip by the use of force. One reason we restrict the use of them here at my place of work. Again it is a personal opinion and what works best for a person and a job. I agree Vice Grips will do the same. If the hose fittings has a hex fitting on it like many do now a open or box end wrench would be ideal. But many people don't have them handy. I have all of the above in my tool boxes. I also carry small pipe wrenches in every tool box. Probably my favorite to use on round pipe ect. But most tools used wrong will bring bad results. And we each have our favorite from our personal experiences. Doesn't make one right and one wrong.

Sounds like Seedmama has you fixed up. The main thing is you are able to save your sprinkler.

I can buy Kroil oil here at about any farm or auto supply store. The best penetrating oil I've ever used in my opinion. Jay

I used "pliers" in a very loose sense. I actually use whichever gripping tool I can find at the moment. Hubby is a disorganized slob so I'm happy with any findable tool. LOL

(Do not ask me how organized I am because I'll just refuse to answer. Or lie. I have no morals, you know. Like tools, they're far too difficult to keep track of.)

Lisa, Cut off the hose to about 6 inches long and take the sprinkler with the hose attached to meet seedmama. You can save a trip, and she will know how to use those tools. LOL

I had to laugh at Diane's description of her husband and tools. DH and I have separate tool boxes. His favorite methods is "Use a bigger hammer".

I have a four way splitter attached to my hose bib with soaker hoses coming off three, and a regular hose coming from the number 4 spot. One hose (the watering one) was leaking badly. I asked my husband to get it off so I could replace it and he tried and couldn't do it and we got into a fight, LOL. I thought he didn't try hard enough, but that thing is just plain STUCK. I will have to try some of the suggestions here, and then gloat to my wonderful husband about woman power!

It's all in how you handle your tool!

Seedmama brought an amazing array of tools to help as well. I wish you could have seen her...she pulled vice grips, pliers, stuff I can't even name out of her purse! She came PREPARED!!! Thank you! and thanks for the seeds ;) I will grow them with relish. bwahhahahhahaha

Years ago when I worked at Tinker and back in the days when all computer's had to be hard wired, we had to have power poles placed at every computer station. I was constantly being called to come check someone's connection or power source, or hardware, so I always needed a few tools and had no where to keep them. I usually just carried them in my purse so I knew where they were when I needed them and no one else had access to them.

One day I was rushing to get dressed to go somewhere and my youngest daughter decided to switch purses for me. Finally she just stopped and said, "Mom, you don't need a purse, you need a tool box." So true.

I had to give pause to the seed transaction in the trunk. Imagine the innocent onlooker, seeing me pull 8 or 10 tools out of my purse. Next I pulled out a manilla coin envelope, extracted two white objects, deposited them in a small baggie, and handed them to Lisa who shoved them in her purse! Too funny!

"Really, Officer. It was seeds. Yes, seeds for a really cool plant called zucchetta trombolino. You see, it produces squash that kind of resemble....oh never mind. Just take me to jail."

Y'all are too funny. Let's not forget that the sprinkler rescue was conducted just one day after Seedmama and others had to deal with severe t-storm/tornado issues. I'm just wondering who has time to garden this week in between dodging storms, protecting family members, checking up on one another and rescuing sprinklers from a premature death?

You've got to have nerves of steel to live and garden in our state.
