don't forget to fertilize with manganese at least twice a year to prevent "frizzle top". many general palm fertilizers do not include this and it can be bought separate (A&P nursery is where i get mine).

It might be rotting. I usually say to pull on the spear of the palm, but I dont think you can do that with yours because it is so big. You are just going to have to watch and wait to see what happens. If the spear falls off, or all the leaves just start to drop and wilt than I think it is dead. It will probably take until june before you will really know if it will recover or not. Good luck!

Right about them not making the best of "indoor" palms but they can be great containerized palms if you have the proper niche for them. I overwinter mine (have three now) in a garage where temps range from a minimum of near 32 F into the 60's in January and February--but there are a few weeks that temps may not get out the 40's. They always make it. Just had them out for air and a heavy watering. Leaves look great without any damage and I bet they even start putting on new growth in response to the longer days, light quality, and warmer temps. Have them back in the garage temporarily. Over the next few days I'll be taking out the Washingtonias for a winter watering and some brighter sun. Obviously, one of the problems Queens have indoor is just their size--not sure how tall mine are but way too tall for the average home (+12 feet maybe?) Indoors only they would probably be subject to spider mite. I agree though about them being nice looking--maybe one of my favorite feather palms (looks very similar to Roystonea but is rather cold tolerant, and grows fast) I did not pay a lot for them at the time. This past season I had them outside from about late March/early April till early December! If you want sometime smaller that has a trunk and looks like a classic palm tree, I suggest getting a Pygmy date (Phoenix roebellini). Good luck!

Hi Queens do have some bad habits but then again so do most palms ?? I use mine to grow epiphytes mostly Vanda orchids but also bromeliads . Broms will grow right on top of the roots lol. A gazillion varieties to choose from and very little debris . What I do like about Queens is that they hold the spent fronds ,so called self cleaning will drop fronds crushing every thing below lol Of course there are many other types of palms with various bad habits . Would think cluster palms a better choice for containers?? gary
