at Doling Family Center (Doling Park), 301 E. Talmage, Springfield

Wednesday, July 16. A "Freezing Your Garden Produce" class will be offered. See the "freezing class" link online (extension.missouri.edu/greene) for more information and a registration form.

Monday, July 20. A "Jams, Jellies and Pickles" will begin at 2 p.m. at the Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W Republic Rd, Springfield. The 6 p.m. class will be held at the MU Extension Center at 833 Boonville, Springfield, Mo. This is a two-hour hands-on class and costs $10 per person.

Wednesday, July 22 we will offer a 3-hour hands-on canning class "Home Canning the Safe Way" at both 1:30 and 6 p.m., at Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W Republic Rd, Springfield.

Tammy Roberts, a nutrition and health education specialist with MU Extension, will teach these classes. Participants will receive hands-on experience and MU Extension guide sheets that include basic information for canning or the making of jams, jellies and pickles.

Advance registration is necessary and can be made by calling the MU Extension office in Greene County at (417) 862-9284.

Registration forms for all available canning, jams/pickles and freezing classes are also available online at extension.missouri.edu/greene. All of the classes are affordably priced at $10 per person.

In Greene County, over 270 people have registered for food preservation classes this summer, easily surpassing the total 2008 enrollment of 28 people in food preservation classes.
