Sun. 4-16: Fire Weather Watch for W. & C. OK

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The NWS has issued a Fire Weather Watch for western and central OK that includes all counties west of a line from Marietta to Ada to Ponca City.

The anticipated conditions in the watch area include high temperatures ranging from the low 80s (east and north) to the low 90s (west and south), minimum RHs of 12-20%, and S/SW winds at 20-25 mph gusting to 35-40 mph.

The Fire Weather Watch is in effect from morning through evening.

Do not be surprised if it is upgraded to a Red Flag Fire Warning for some areas.

One important thing to remember is that we have been incredibly lucky this week. While we have had a few large wildfires, we have not had them to the extent some surrounding states have had in the last week. In Texas, for example, over 700,000 acres have burned in the last week.

Please report all smoke or fire to local emergency officials immediately because the best hope firefighters have of stopping these fires is to get to them quickly before they grow too large.

Remember that weather conditions which lead to high fire danger also are very hard and drying on tender vegetation, so give your plants some TLC and extra moisture tomorrow if they are looking thirsty or windburnt.
