WHY SUPERSPIKE WAS DEVELOPED...

For the past thirty or so years clients have brought orchids into our greenhouses they have previously purchased. Invariably, the plants have had problems with damaged roots from over-watering, sunburn, dehydration or disease.

The DFW water is very alkaline and orchids thrive with a pH of about 6.5 to 6.3. Our DFW water comes from lakes in the surrounding area. The lakes have a great deal of dissolved limestone from the walls and floors of the lakes. Limestone raises the pH of our water to a level that damages orchid roots. The city keeps the pH on the high side so the pipes will not corrode. If the city lowers the pH to healthy levels, the old iron pipes will corrode and be unbelievably expensive to maintain. Until cities replace ALL iron pipes, valves, and connections with plastic the pH must remain high. This information was obtained from a discussion Dr. Cook and I had with the city of Dallas water department in 1989. The pH level was almost 11 that we tested in both greenhouses that were miles apart. The city had an equipment failure, ALL of our orchid roots turned black in the greenhouses. This high pH severely burned the roots of the orchids. They became rough as sandpaper, turned black, had open cracks that left the roots vulnerable to infection. Alkaline water entered the interior of the roots through the cracks and porous alkaline burned surface, soon the plants had complete root loss. The roots are the plants mouth; without excellent roots the plant cannot take up water or nutrients, the leaves crinkle, the plant weakens and eventually dies.

Something had to be done to prevent this fluctuation of pH.

Chlorine is added to our water, otherwise it would smell from the fish and other creatures that live and die in our lakes. The chlorine is stabilized to keep it from rapidly breaking down. This added chlorine keeps the water in our pipes healthy for us to drink. Chlorine does not kill orchid plants; however, continuous exposure does erode the root covering.

The pH of ocean water is 8.0. Anything above 7.0 is alkaline and below is acidic. Orchids thrive on slightly acidic water.

The Biological Pump: The chemical balance or buffering of the ocean is actually managed by the plants and animals that live in it. They keep the pH of the ocean water at about 8.0, just a bit higher than neutral (neutral pH is 7.0).

Plants and animals maintain the chemical balance, or do what science calls buffering, by the balance of respiration and photosynthesis. As the plants give off oxygen, and drive the pH to higher (more alkaline or basic) values. As animals respire, they give off Co2, and this drives the pH to lower (more acidic) values. This dynamic balance struck by these two major processes keeps the ocean in its pH balance, and makes life possible and tolerable in ocean waters and rain forests.

Excellent orchid growing is mostly keeping the roots in excellent condition, watering early in the mornings so the above pot portion of the orchid plant is dry by nightfall. A little moving air keeps the plants dry and encourages the uptake of moisture and nutrients from the roots. This early morning watering and moving air combination eliminates fungal problems. Bright light, not direct sun, is required by all shade loving orchids.

SUPERSPIKE was developed after research revealed the commercial fertilizers did not keep roots on the plants in excellent condition. The roots would grow at certain times of year then stop.

SUPERSPIKE stimulates constant root growth. With nutritional SUPERSPIKE the roots of orchid plants become smooth as silk and keep a bright green growing tip. Nutrients are stored in the bulbs, leaves and roots of orchid plants. The more roots, the more nutrition available for blooms and new growth.

SUPERSPIKE is a complete nutritional program for orchid plants and is not a fertilizer.

Commercial fertilizers simply dont have the range of expensive ingredients found in SUPERSPIKE.

SUPERSPIKE is made through a very slow secret fermentation process. That process breaks down the ingredients into a stage where a second electrical colloidal process brings particle size to micron size. SUPERSPIKE invented the equipment to bombard and breakup the nutrients into micron size particles. The nutrients become so small that they can be readily absorbed by orchid roots; stoma (the little microscopic mouth on leaves of orchid plants). If your plants have no roots the plants can absorb SUPERSPIKE thru the leaves by a light morning daily misting.

Nutritional SUPERSPIKE contains colloidal minerals, hormones, plant steroids, vitamins, acids, peroxides to total almost ninety compounds.

SUPERSPIKE contains a compound that breaks the chlorine bond.

SUPERSPIKE blends natural nutrients, synthesized to high concentration. SUPERSPIKE contains rare nutrients that improve the orchid plants ability to deal with disease and hormones that stimulate the growth of the plant and increase bloom count. Root restoration hormones and steroids stimulate root production of the orchid plant. Colloidal vitamins processed so small that the orchid plants can rapidly absorb them and have been discovered to be necessary for the orchid plants health. SUPERSPIKE contains an acid to keep the pH range at 6.3 to 6.5. The rainforest is teaming with living things, consequently the pH is lower than neutral(7.0).

The living things deposit acid droppings on orchid plants. Orchid plants have evolved over the millenia to process these droppings and turn them into beautiful blooms.

For severely damaged plants, a light misting in the morning is found to be beneficial in stimulating new growth and new roots on orchid plants. The old growth transfers the nutrients into a new healthy growth. The old growth, once damaged, rarely returns to the plump vigorous growth it once was, orchid plants usually repair themselves by transferring nutrients to a new growth or new set of leaves.

SUPERSPIKE stimulates re-blooming on old phalaenopsis spikes, so do not cut your spikes...we have had plants with six or more old and new thick spikes branching and blooming at the same time.

Spikes so thick and strong they do not have to be staked...Thus the name SUPERSPIKE

Plants grown with SUPERSPIKE have doubled or tripled in size and bloom count over traditional fertilizers.

SUPERSPIKE should not be confused with a product called Superthrive that has not been inproved (to published knowledge) since the 1940Âs.

IT TOOK ALMOST 30 YEARS TO DEVELOP SUPERSPIKE AS YOU SEE IT TODAY.
