Eastern Phoebes

Although I have an emotional attachment to hummingbirds, Eastern Phoebes are by far my favorite birds. A pair of these flycatchers have nested under the eave of our house for about 8 years now. Every spring grasshoppers look to be bad and by the time they have started their second batch of young they are hardly noticeable.

Two years now they've used a nest on a motion sensor bulb over the garage. It takes her a few days to get used to us going in and out each spring.

Last Monday I found egg shells on the drive under the nest, so some of the eggs have started hatching.

This morning shortly after daylight I found a young bird on the drive. It was sad. I picked it up to get rid of. Got it in my hand and it didn't feel cold at all.

After a a few minutes in my palm it was wiggling and demanding food, so it found it's way back into the nest. Everything seems back to normal now.
