Dead Eastern Phoebe Chicks. Any ideas why and how to help next time?

I have had Phoebe's nesting under my deck for several years at a summer home VT. This year there were five eggs when I left on June 11th. When I returned yesterday the eggs had hatched but all were dead and the parents were no where to be seen. Any ideas what might have happened and if/how it can be prevented in future? Attached is a photo, the chicks looked healthy, had feathers and had grown quite large. There were several ants in the nest/on the chicks, not sure if they came before or after the chicks passed.....Thoughts? Should I remove the nest/chicks or leave them?
