Thurs: Fire Weather Watch for Most of W OK

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

The NWS has issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of western Oklahoma for Thursday, but generally stopping one county west of the counties through which I-35 runs. This includes 29 counties in Oklahoma and western North Texas which are included in the NWS's Norman Weather office forecast area.

The timing of the Fire Weather Watch is from Thursday morning through Thursday evening.

The forecast weather is very similar to last Sunday's situation, though winds are forecast to gust to 35 instead of 50-something. Ahead of the dryline, there will be a slight chance of storms, possibly severe, in the more eastern parts of the state (generally east of I-35) and extreme fire potential for counties in the Fire Weather Watch area.

The Fire Weather Watch area is highlighted in pink on the map at the bottom of the linked page.

Remember that even if you are not in the Fire Weather Watch area, we still have Very High to Extreme Fire Weather every day this week, a situation that will continue, especially on windy days, until enough rain falls that significant greenup occurs.

Stay tuned for updates.
