I want to plant stuff!

I have returned to graduate school full-time, and as a result, I only have this month of August to play in the garden of the home I bought last year. To make things worse, I'm getting work done on the house, so I can't get too attached to whatever I plant, lest the evil contractors destroy my babies(as they did my fabulous lupine *sigh*)I know it's really not the right time of year to thin out the perennial beds of my friends and family but I just couldn't help myself! This weekend I lifted some stuff from a friend's house and it is looking very poor today. I've been eyeing up the black eyed susans at the tennis courts and the bergamot (oswego tea) at my aunt's house. I also want to "transplant" some wild ferns to the perpetually damp and shady nothern corner of my yard. I've been holding back because it's just not the right time to disturb anything...is there any hope for me? Or should I just wait another year for grad school to finish before I can go back to digging in the dirt?
