Okay, Belle, inquiring minds (albeit ignorant about roses) want to know: did you choose your forum name after the rose, or did you propogate a new variety?

In bloom in my garden that's new from last week: Petunias! My wintersown petunias are blooming all over the place now. coreopsis, dianthus (just), husker red penstemon (beautiful! - I grew this from seed last year) and garden bells penstemon (pretty, but not so spectacular as the Husker Red), calendula. I think that's all the new stuff. Most everything from last week is still in bloom, too.

No shastas yet, but hopefully soon.

New this week:

-Roses - of particular note DA's 'A Shropshire Lad' and the great old standby'Iceberg'
-Dianthus of every size and color
-Stewartia just starting
-Coreopsis 'Moonbeam'
-recurring Daylilies 'Stella d'Oro', 'Red Eyed Stella', 'Knock Out'
Containered tomatoes and peppers

Growgirl, #5 looks like honeysuckle - mine is in bloom now, and looks very similar to your photo.

Your first photo is a hosta, although I don't know which one. There are so many different varieties. Your photo #10 also looks like a hosta, but can't tell if it also has the variegated leaf or if it is a different variety. Photo #11 looks like it might be lychnis...can't be sure. I would have expected the foliage to be grayer, is the foliage a little felty and soft to the touch? Your #3 photo, I agree looks like a honeysuckle which would be fragrant. Photo #6 + 7 look like a rose, but can't be sure without a closeup and have no idea what variety.

It's hard to tell but I think #2, 3 and 4 are weeds. I agree with everyone else on the hostas, rose, and Lychnis. The Honeysuckle looks like the invasive wild variety that covers everything in sight if given the chance. Once again, it's hard to tell but the shrub in #9 looks like it may be a Forsythia. Is #8 dying?

Oh sheesh, Growgirl, I have to apologize. I guess I wasn't thinking clearly and just assumed that you knew what some of the plants were, but not the variety. For example, I assumed you knew that the first photo was a hosta, but wanted to know what the named variety was. Ditto on the rose. Sorry for that.

On that note, I'd agree with the above posts. From your first set of photos, #1 and #10 are hostas; #6 and #7 is a rose (with daylilies in front of it).

I'd agree that #2 and #4 are weeds, although I'm not sure about #3. I think Sue is right about #9 being a forsythia. The other photos are too difficult to make out, at least for me (who has trouble with plant IDs anyway, lol!)

Hope you are enjoying living in Milford and in CT in general. Make sure to keep an eye out for our plant swap in the fall!

Referring to the first set of photos:

#2 might be a weed (mugwort- finiely divided leaves) overgrowing a planting of bearded iris (pointy leaves).

#8 might be a shrub (broom) nearing the end of its life. They don't die gracefully, but they flower around Memorial Day.

With the shrubs that are dying, would you recommend I cut them back first and try and save them?
