Same here....and not looking to improve soon since more rain fell today and even more is in the forecast for several other days this week.

At this rate, I'd have a better chance of raising catfish than a garden this spring.

Our conditions were good up until Sunday. Drainage here is very good. So, I got in Jerreth's five blueberry bushes and a little more than half our onions. By Saturday night I was feeling it, having done so much spade work. But sure enough, everything got watered in (and then some) Sunday!

We have rain (or snow) in our forecast on at least 4 days this week, although the forecast models have been showing the snow going further and further south tomorrow each time they run the models. (That doesn't hurt my feelings any. I hope it all goes south of us.)

I'm watching the forecast for March 2-3 very, very closely because some of the main forecast models are showing another round of very cold and wet weather for that time period too. I'm still going to try to get peas in the ground by March 1st, and onions and potatoes too...to the extent that I can do anything in the lake formerly known as our yard and garden.

I haven't added up our precipitation totals for 2010 and compared them to historical averages, but I know we've had above-average rainfall in our county this year. In general, above-average winter rainfall wouldn't be unwelcome in Love County because our lowest rainfall months are the winter months. However, in 2009, we had 53" of rainfall, which is roughly 15" more than our annual average, so we entered 2010 with saturated soil that cannot absorb any more moisture.

At least we're all in the same boat. Most gardeners in the US have excess moisture this year and many folks in zones 9 and 8 who ought to be planting ahead of us haven't been able to do that because of the colder, wetter conditions.

Our forecasted "drizzle" turned into a rainy Sunday. I'm sure we got more than an inch, but don't have a rain guage to measure it. I usually just check containers. This cold is just hanging on and on and on. I hope we have some warm sunny weather in March, cause a lot of my seedlings are getting lanky. Off to Walmart's to buy some grow lights. Maybe that'll bring the sun on!

It had just dried up enough here last week to get in two days of prep work in the beds--and now it's back to swampland. I can't even walk through the yard today. I know that I'll be begging for it in a few months, but it's driving me crazy right now.

The one good thing about it is that I don't feel as rushed about getting all of my seeds started inside.

I hope the grow lights help. I'm afraid March weather looks like it will be a repeat of February in terms of recurring cold fronts bringing rain, snow and a general lack of sunshine. The temps will slowly rise though and that's about all we realistically can hope for at this point in time. Looks like a big cold front with rain or snow around March 2-3.

Megan, The pressure is off now, but just wait until we have an actual warming trend and finally can plant. We'll be little garden maniacs out there doing our transplanting and direct-sowing.

I do hate to be unhappy about the moisture, because only 3 weeks without rain here in southern OK in summer puts us back into drought. (It took me a couple of years to realize how quickly the tables can turn here.) I'm not at the point that I'm praying for drought yet, LOL, but I am thinking back fondly to some drought winters when I could plant on-time and water well, and only occasionally had to cover up plants on a cold night.

Every spring it is such a challenge here.

Oh, gosh, Dawn, I know what you mean about trying your best to be happy about moisture. I'm otherwise afraid to complain in fear of jinxing myself and facing drought. We all know too well that drought is often much more painful to face than a lot of rain. Not good for plants, not good for pocketbook.

I just haven't done anything to the garden yet. Not quite ready to cut everything back in light of weather predictions. I feel that if I am patient and leave all the dead above ground growth as is, it is protecting the roots of many of my borderline, zone 7 plants.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be ready to start wintersowing my tomatoes and other warm weather plant seeds. I save my 20 oz. water bottles to sow my tomatoes in. Two seeds to each bottle. It has worked very nicely in the past.

Need to get to Horn's a get a couple of 40 lb bags of chicken manure. I swear by the stuff.

I escaped! The forecast didn't look good, snow between Amarillo and Albuquerque on Sunday night...

I got in my car and left. Babysitting in Albuquerque all day today. That was a lot nicer, than wondering when to get those onion sets in the ground. :)

I hope, it dries up a bit by the time I get back home.

I have to confess, one thing that has been good about the weather it has given me more time to experiment with growing from seeds. If I do have to start over, I have time. I would be so behind schedule on direct sowing anything...more time to learn. (shrug) if there is any upside to this. I am ready to get out though!!!

There is only the very lightest dusting of snow here in far southcentral OK this morning, as most of the snow went south of I-20 in Texas. The next snow potential in OK is for Thurs/Fri, I think. Then, next week we have a chance for a 'big'snowstorm in the Sun/Mon range.

Where is our sunshine and warmth?

I remember a week or so before Christmas when everyone wished they could have a white one. So I have graciously sent the storms south so those less fortunate could enjoy the snow this winter. Now many are sounding less than thankful. LOL. I haven't really looked at the weekend ahead but for some reason feel some snow is getting closer. Hopefully it will warm up enough it will come in the liquid form. Hope you all dry out soon so you can get in your gardens. I could use a little more before I need to plant. Have been pulling the straw back some over the garlic. Jay

Dh cleaned out the chicken shed and spread the litter (woodshavings/manure) on the beds where corn will be this year Friday and even though it was a trifle wet tilled it in. He wanted to get it down before the forcasted rain. We got just over an inch on Sunday. I usually plant lettuce, spinach, onions and radishes the first week in March and beets, chard, and potatoes the second week. Also usually plant pea plants the first week in March. I know the peas will be late. Will have to see about the rest. But at least today it's sunny, if not warm, so it looks like spring from inside the house, with the crocus opened up.

Boy, I agree with everyone, I am sick of the bad weather. We have some sunshine today and for that I am grateful. I stepped in my lawn this afternoon and almost went ankle deep in mud. But I have to wonder about Dallas...they have been getting it!

It is a good thing you are many miles away and far beyond the reach of my puny little hands....'cause I'd have to slap you upside the head for sending that nasty old snow down here to us over and over and over again.

I confess to being one of the sadly misguided individuals who was longing for and hoping for "a white Christmas". I blame it all on growing up in zone 8 in Texas where Christmas tends to be brown/green and fairly warm. Having been snowed in for my one and only white Christmas here in OK this winter, I am "over it" and will not make the mistake of hoping for a white holiday of any sort ever again. I especially DON'T want a white Easter or a white St. Paddy's Day or a white Mother's Day, so Jay, keep that cold, wet, white stuff up there in Kansas where it belongs.

The white stuff is forecast for here in OK (mostly in the northern parts) about Friday but our local forecaster makes it sound like it won't be much of anything. The 'big' snowstorm that the forecast models are predicting will hit approximately Sunday. I'll try to check tonight and see what the weather bloggers at WU are saying about it. Yesterday they were saying it might be a big, bad storm....but forecast models a week in advance are pretty unreliable. By Friday, we should have a good idea of what to expect Sunday.

I have tomato blooms(!) on my purchased early tomato plants and the plants are longing for some real sunlight and heat so they can make us some yummy early tomatoes. This repeated snow just isn't gonna cut it.

I am starting to get a bit nervous about our planting of the early crops getting pushed later and later. I am moving my peas from the light shelf to the back porch tomorrow because they are growing so rapidly. I need to get them in the ground next week, so the weather needs to cooperate with me a bit more.

I'm glad you had sunshine, and crocuses too. I don't mind the cold and mud when the sun is shining and I can see blue sky!

Many people in Dallas were 'hoping' for snow today. I believe they only need 1.9" to set an alltime seasonal record, but they didn't get it today.

When we were in the D-FW area around mid-day today, there were a few very light flurries but they melted as they hit.

I think that today was Dallas's seventh 'snow event' of the season, even though it mostly fizzled out. With the Sun-Mon event in the forecast, Dallas still might set a record for seasonal snowfall. I have family down there, and DH and DS work in Dallas, so I always follow their weather pretty closely.

Here's an example of what a poor planner I am: I did not research southern OK's weather before we moved here. We had friends who lived here and loved it and we always enjoyed the time we spent up here with them. Besides that, I'd lived 80 miles south of here my whole life, so I figured the weather here would be about the same....only a little colder in winter. How wrong was I?

Do you even have to ask? One of the first neighbors we met up here was named (actually, I think it was a nickname) Bunch and I suppose he was in his mid-80s when we moved here. He helped me a lot in terms of understanding our weather and our native plants. He told me (rather sarcastically) one day: "Congratulations. You managed to move to the one place in Oklahoma that is both colder than Fort Worth in the winter, and hotter than Fort Worth in the summer." I thought he was just joking. He wasn't. I love living here in spite of the weather! This winter though, the cold and wet and cloudy winter weather is really testing my patience.
