Can't Plant It's All Mud

Went to the garden to plant some of the onions I've received and all I did was get bogged down in the mud. Tried turning over a few shovels of soil to see what the ground was like and the soil liquified.

There has been so much snow and rain here recently that the soil seems saturated. Water stands on the ground; soil seems incapable of absorbing any more. Usually by this time of year my pond is almost dry, this year it is 3/4 full.

So, the onions are back in the shed. Trying to plant them now would be like planting rice in the mud in southeast asia. Minus the heat.
